Game not loading after patch

new update yada yada, my save wont load, it stops at 10% on the initializing part, any ideas on how to fix it?

Had exact problem this morning. Tried install 2 times. Then decided to reload 16.09.39 file i had saved. i save all updates (just rename them for the # they have) just in case of problems like this.. I had loading problems with that version as well. So i uninstalled the game entirely (and took out my license as they suggested). And reinstalled the 16.09.39, entered my license, and the game ran. But i had a lot of problems saving back-ups. Got errors telling me my auto save feature wasn't working correctly. Ended up cutting an "auto-save" file from my C drive, and putting it in my F drive (back up external) and then re-pasting it back in my C drive folders when i was done ... back-ups worked perfectly then.

Then i noticed i didn't have any of my add-on central servers. had a heck of a time figured that one out, as Add a server wouldn't work. Finally i found a folder on my C drive for "add-ons" and i moved the temp.xml file to another folder, and then everything worked. When i moved it back to where it was, everything was still working. Go figure.

Anyway, after about 8 hours of fiddling and mostly cursing, i got the folders, files and game back to where it was before i tried to use the "new" updated file. i'll keep this where it's at until i get a copy of OOTP 17. Hopefully the import feature will be seamless.

Anywho ... just letting you know you're not alone in the new update not working. And you can go back to an older version, just be aware it might take some work. It shouldn't and i'm not certain why i had so many problems, but it's all good now here.

Unlicense, uninstall, reinstall, re-license.

After the update Steam was telling me the game was already running so it couldn't be started, and closing and re-opening Steam didn't help, and I tried a couple of solutions on the Steam forums until I came to one that said ... maybe restart your computer. And problem solved. It's 2016 and "when in doubt, reboot" still seems to be valid.

After the update, Steam showed the game as no longer being installed and since I couldn't figure out how to get Steam to recognize the install I had to reinstall....and now the game won't recognize my saved league, which it says it from a previous version. So yes, I've got some issues.

Sounds like your problem came because you installed the patch over a steam install.

The patch isn't meant for steam users. Notice the big red disclaimer at the top of Markus' post in the patch thread.

I'd recommend saving your league, uninstalling again and then simply reinstalling the steam version, without the patch. That should allow you to load your game. The patch will be updated for steam shortly, you'll just have to wait a bit longer.

Not sure what you mean since the patch was pushed out to Steam users. I didn't download it. And in general it is one of the real downsides of Steam that they don't allow opting out of updates.

Oh, so I may be wrong then, sorry.

I had thought from what you said that you installed the patch from the forums onto a steam game.

If that's not the case, then you might want to try filing a support ticket so the tech support guys can help you out.

Ok update time, I uninstalled and reinstalled and ihad hope when my save got up to 30% and then stopped loading at the nation flags, I have steam Should i uninstall wait a week then reinstall since Markus said that the patch for some reason hasnt been passed out to steam users?

Thanks, I'm gonna try to recover it from the daily backup first and if that doesn't work will file a ticket. I just clinched the pennant in my third season with this league so would hate to have to roll it back very far.

Edit: Got it working from the Auto Save and using the method described in this post, so I'm good I hope. Thanks for your help.
