Exclamation Stability (app)

So just some feedback, relative to stability of 17 vs last 3 or 4 versions I do find this version the most unstable aka crashy. I have had the game crash playing in a game and also while simming - today it crashed 4 times - in total on last 3 versions I have never had the game crash.

I do think that 99% of the crashed Ive experienced have been since the last patch a day or so ago.

Just some feedback from someone who has not had an ootp version crash in years.

As always though - absolutely awesome game, I just now find myself saving every 3 or 4 days in gametime

Bug report maybe?

I haven't had a crash with 17 since a pre-release beta build, so maybe I've been lucky. And steam shows over 200 hours in game.

15 was very stable for me for the first 800 hours and then started crashing every 6th inning when playing out the games. Importing the league to 16 fixed that and 16 was very stable for me...I had maybe one or two isolated crashes. Hopefully 17 will get to the same level of stability for everyone.

I had to uninstall 17, crashes every time I try to sim forward to the next day.

Back to 16 for now. I love this game but feel like I wasted cash on the new version.

That was V14 for me game was always crashing had to save everyday game would crash not simming but doing every day stuff like opening player profiles I barley play OOTP at all for that year. Before this It was my league being to big and the game crashing cause to much data all over my hard drive or me having sound on and computer had broken sound card so game would crash.

These are just some of the issues I had, Defraging and Trying to limit what is active while playing OOTP have helped I haven't had a problem since 15 and I lowered the size of my league by deleting Free agents and Feeder leagues and stuff. Or going back a patch and playing on a old patch to see if that helps

The latest beta patch (40) is stable, no crashes with it and the 3D stuff seems sorted too. Don't know when it will be made public but hopefully that won't make you think you've wasted cash on 17.

We need more info from guys who have crashes... what kind of system (detailed info) etc.

Known issues are crashes on some Macs when playing out games in 3D, other than that the game is very stable unless there are some system issues or something in the background messing with the game (i.e. virus scanner).

sim hanging / crashing to desktop

Windows 7, Intel 920 i7 CPU, 9gb RAM, nvidia GTX 650 Ti GPU

I don't play out games, so can't speak to crashes there. My crashes are happening while simming periods of time. First time it happened I tried to sim to the end of the regular season (was in spring training). Then I tried month to month, with saving in between. was able to sim 4 months and then it hung/crashed. when it crashes, the screen just freezes and you can see the cursor/mouse in its "spinning" mode. if you hit ESC, OOTP ends and very briefly you can see a popup box in the background, I'm assuming this is a error message of some sort. Next time it happens I'll try to alt-tab or view the desktop and see if I can capture what it says. From event viewer, I see Exception Code 0xc0000005, and Fault offset 0x0030d0e9. Faulting Process ID 0x1714. It also has some faulting application start time data, probably not relevant to RCA. does reference the lting app as ootp17.exe. My install path is c:\Games\OOTP17\ootp17.exe.
Will play around some more tonight and add any additional info I can.

Oh. by the way...this may be relevant. This particular game is a restore from a backup. Must say I don't recall any crashes with prior games I've started. I created this new game restoring from a backup to a new game name.

Third time in a row that OOTP17 crashed during the first game and reset to Apr 1st.
Basically, unplayable.

Mac version, downloaded from app store. Was using 3D mode (just see that there are some issues with that).

Try this: Open the settings dialog, click the "3D & Facegen" tab, then for OpenGL Shader Mode select "Disable...". That should help. Please let me know if it does.

Try this: Open settings dialog, at the bottom there is the option "Helper Threads", select None (Threading Disabled). Let me know if this helps please.

I'm also experiencing tons of crashes while simming. Never had an issue on the same system in past years.

i7-4770k, 16gb RAM, installed on a 2TB HD. Only thing running in the background is Windows Defender

I have experienced quite a bit of crashing while simming. I have been simming for testing a league out. It starts in 1985 and I just sim big blocks of time. It crashes normally towards the beginning of the year than it crashes it back to the 1st of January. Than a couple times while it is simming a big block of time and I hit ESC it errors out. Normally when I sim during specific periods within a season it doesn't seem to crash. But when I choose to sim to a specified date it crashes during random times.

I have a MacBook Pro have the latest version on it. I have the updated patch and if it crashes again I will send error with it. It wasn't happening before the patch but now it is.

Crashing when attempting to sim from December 31 to January 1st. Crashes everytime during the OSA scouting (at around 80%). I've tried all the things mentioned in the thread with no luck. Windows 7 PC.

Promising. Did multiple sims a month at a time, saving in between. No issues. Did a sim to go 2 months (until end of playoffs) and had no problems. then simmed until next year and no problems. Did a full year sim still no problems. Just restarted and trying another "until next year" from Jan 1 so far seems to be humming along.

Want me to try different values for Helper Threads? Believe the i7 920 is a quad core CPU, so maybe I should try 4 instead of 8?

Leave it at None please, something on your system is messing with OOTP when it runs in multi-threading mode it seems.

yep, ok. tried it at 4, hung a couple months in. turned it back off and simmed 10 years overnight with no problems.

should I re-enable threading with the new patch? or just leave well enough alone?
