Historical mode breaks after a while.

So I have been playing a historical mode game, I started as the penguins in 67 and have stuck with the team throughout. when I finally hit the salary cap era my financial situation became impossible, not just mine, the entire leagues. each teams budget is well below the league salary cap and star players end up sitting in free agency for years because no one can afford them. Also each year my team ends up having no money to spend on free agents so my roster has slowly dwindled to the point that my current team is heading into the 2015-16 season with a roster of 25 players. one backup goalie and one backup skater. I was just wondering if other people had this issue in historical mode or if it was possibly just this one game.
