SMH again

After all the stupid junk Hope Solo has done through out her career, US Soccer is suspending her 6 months & terminating her contract for calling Sweden cowards.

Really? Now? If you really want your players to reach a certain standard, how about punishing them when they really do something bad when it really hurts? Like, IDK, when she attacked her sister & nephew, maybe? Or when she throws her coach under the bus?

Bunch o' phonies.

while I think it was a silly thing for her to say, I am not sure why its so bad to warrant a 6 month suspension.

It could've been the result of the cumulative stuff over the years instead of this one incident. It's not unprecedented for an athlete to be fined/suspended/released after a "straw that broke the camel's back" type event.

dola,

"Taking into consideration the past incidents involving Hope, as well as the private conversations we've had requiring her to conduct herself in a manner befitting a U.S. national team member, U.S. Soccer determined this is the appropriate disciplinary action," said U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati.

So, that's probably it. Anyway, it really doesn't matter. The U.S. Women's team only has 2 games scheduled over the next six months (2 friendlies). So it looks more symbolic than anything.

Definitely cumulative.. This is not an isolated incident for Solo. Many thought she had gotten off way to easy with some of her last indiscretions. I find it odd people are now saying she's being punished too severely. In actuality, she's likely only going to miss a total of two games (edit: looks like you pointed this out already.)

Personally, I think her act has grown tiresome and I'd like to see the USWNT go in a different direction.

Yeah, I don't really follow women's soccer, but I'm pretty much here on the topic. I'm sure they can find another goalie.

This is my point. This has no teeth. The moral of the story boys & girls is you can get only 20 to 30 2nd chances before the powers that be get very cross with you at a time convenient to them.

Yeah, but hope was the top goalie in the U.S. Come the World Cup the top candidates are going to be 30z

Certainly being good buys you a lot of slack. This is universally true. I suspect she sits out these 2 friendlies and is right back on the pitch.

As an aside, I watched TWO soccer matches on Saturday. That might be non-World Cup record. Watched Hull totally just survive for 92 minutes, then puff it up against Man U in extra time. Also watched some of the local NASL match.

Ever play FIFA, TribeFan?
Playing Ultimate Team made me enjoy soccer a lot more.

No, I did play PES/Winning Eleven games a few different years though. I do like playing soccer games. I didn't know FIFA had an Ultimate Team mode. I could see doing that. That sounds more interesting than just playing out seasons.

If you can avoid micro transactions and focus on the grind then it can be fun.
And the AI gives you a good challenge. Plus I find it fun to open packs and discover players I know nothing/little about and having weird mish mashes of teams.
And I am a hardcore soccer fan so finding a speedy winger that plays in Saudia Arabia is a lot of fun along with a fullback from Slovakia and a keeper from Sweden.

Yeah, I had about 6 weeks off between jobs last year right when Madden came out and got super addicted to Madden Ultimate Team. I didn't mind grinding because I had a lot of time to burn. The quoted parts above are what I like the most.

Unfortunately (for my gaming anyway), I have a job this year so my grind time will be limited, but I might check it out anyway.

I did not enjoy Madden that much simply because of the more limited player pool

I understand Madden is limited to 32 teams but a lot of the fun of FIFA comes from the thousands of players in it.
If you choose to play online you can play a lot of games and never see the same players or team combinations.
