Template issue?
I have a template for a league that I created in a prior version of OOTP. Now that I have upgraded to 17.9.60, I'm planning to start a new save in order to use the latest roster sets.
However when I started a new game in 17.9.60 with the template from 17.8.54, I believe I still have the rosters from the previous version. Reason being is that the draft results were vastly different between a save I created with the template and one I created without a template, and I understand that the draft pool was updated significantly between versions. I had thought that a template is the best way to create league settings for new games and does not affect rosters. I have many customizations I used to make the template (awards, financials, league structures, etc.) and I would like to use these with the most current roster set. Are there some specific roster changes from 17.8.54 to 17.9.60 that would reveal my answer? |

Templates from already created games do indeed contain all players and rosters. Only when you create a template from a game which you are in the process of creating from scratch (without players) the structure & rules is the only thing that gets saved.

I created a template from scratch, and did not save an already-created game as a template. I did this in 17.8.54. From the main menu, I went new custom game>create real world league. I selected all the leagues to include (MLB, foreign leagues, indy leagues) and a template was loaded, which I assume contains all the players. Next I made a lot of changes in advanced mode, to league structures, schedules, awards, etc. Once I was done I saved the template, and then hit "start game". Isn't it at that point where the game is created? The real question is: if I load the above template, created in 17.8.54, to a new custom game in 17.9.60, will it include the players/rosters from 17.8.54 or from 17.9.60? I want the most recent player/roster set in the new custom game. |

The "real world league" already contains all players. So, the template does as well. When you create a league using the template, it will have the 17.8.54 players (the version which was used when creating the template).

Can a template be created without including the players and rosters? What I would like is to have a setup (my customized structures, financials, etc.) that I can apply each time a new patch comes out with updated roster sets, so when I create a new save with the updated rosters, I don't have to go and change everything again.
