can i put a player on a specific team and how?

I want to import Mike PIazza into my league for the 2016 mets. But when I do this it makes me try to sign him. Is their a way to just put him on my team?

Commish Mode > Mike Piazza Card > Editor Tab > Team Information, Select New Team (left side of page) > "No league selected" box (click on whatever your league is named) > "None (free agent)" box (click on New York Mets)

That should get him where you want him to go.
