Since the game has personality traits for players, why not have a crew of umpires with traits in the game.

They retire and new ones get brought up from the minors like real life.

Some have a larger strike zone. Some quick to eject.

Older versions of the game had an option to argue a strike out call. Sometimes the manager would get tossed from the game. It would be a great tie in with a batter "arguing with the ump".

Football manager has this and it adds a whole nother dimension to the game even if in the end it's mostly window dressing.

There's a few refs in that game I shudder to see on my matchsheet.
