GM Blue Jays in expansion year
Has anyone tried doing this?
I'm using the default rosters with no expansion draft (and no DH) and am finding it crushingly difficult. At the All Star break I'm projecting to lose over 100 games (as they did in real life of course 54-107) while the hugely optimistic owner is expecting me to reach the playoffs! In the first year? With only one minor league feeder club?? With little or no in the way of prospects even??? What are the chances I'll be sacked even before the amateur draft? To make it even more enjoyable my "less bad" players (let's not get overexcited and call them my better players) seem to be rotating on the DL with 2-3 month injuries. The only bright spot was Atlanta offering me Gary Matthews a half decent LF in exchange for a couple of my relievers that I was able to add an additional draft pick to. Having said that 2 weeks in he goes on the DL! I don't mind hard but what are the chances of me getting sacked here? If it's likely then maybe my best way forward is to make myself unsackable, at least for the first couple of years to give me a chance to build the farm system into something worth shouting about. |

Well I didn't end up getting fired even though I lost 105 games. I'm now looking to rebuild with a new 3 year contract and new expectations of getting close to .500 and getting to the World Series within two years. I think it was the fact that I turned a tidy profit last year kept me in work. Not sure I'll achieve that this year with a new salary structure required.
