Possible to be fired?
Took over the Marlins and have pretty much ranked the last four seasons and the owner recently sent me a message mid season saying if I don’t turn it around then he might need to clean house. Got me worried cause I’ve finally built a really stacked farm system and have a ton of cash for free agents but have been using all of it in development and scouting until I find some good free agents hopefully after this season is over.
Have the game on challenge mode so if I get fired I’m gonna be pissed after collecting some good prospects. My first first two year first round draft picks are okay but my last two first rounder picks are legit superstars in the making. Then I’ll have another too 5 pick next season and signed two five Star international free agents who are 18 right now. Would be a shame if I lost all of this. If I don’t get fired this offseason i might have to change course a little and spend big in free agency just to stay .500 to please the jerk. Haven’t spent much in free agency so far and it’s 2021. Only guys I’ve bought were good relievers just to flip at the deadline for more prospects. So my question is has anybody been fired and is it possible? And what was the reason? I’ve been tanking to rebuild the farm system since the marlins farm sucks but wish the owner would realize this somehow and give me the time I need. I’m pretty much set now and just need them to develope now. |

I can't respond about being fired. I don't play challenge mode and turn on the "do not fire" box for every new league I start. I don't want to be in the position you describe and find myself out of a job.
My fun playing OOTP comes from watching the results of interacting with one franchise and the successes and failures of my decisions. Some of which may take years to occur. I don't want to be fired by the AI ever. |

Yeah, I don't think you have the "Can't be fired" option in Challenge Mode. That's the main reason I don't play that way.

Not only is possible to be fired it's pretty easy to get fired. The personality of the owners is definitely something to be considered before taking a job with a team.I got fired in mid season once only 12 games out of the playoffs! But the owner said "make the playoffs or else".
You could click the "cannot be fired" button. But you wouldn't do that would you? |

So you have tanked for four straight seasons and you still have a job? I would say you should be worried, yes.
The reason would be that you aren't meeting the owner's requirements. What were his goals? Have you met them? Maybe there is something you could do during the rest of the current season to satisfy one or more of them? |

Guess I have to try and satisfy st least on of his goals this season and hope I don’t get canned. Dude wants me to play .500 ball but that ain’t happening. Other option is to trade for a SS so might have to look into that one. |

I am sure that the next GM will appreciate the stocked farm system that you left for him.

I don't play Challenge Mode but I have been fired twice in Sept. before the season was over. In real life the Tigers fired Billy Martin when they were only 6 games out with 3 weeks to go. It was a decade before they had another winning team. And who could forget Dick Williams got fired after winning the World Series. (I guess he didn't meet the owner's goals).

Yup, just got canned after the 2021 season. Marlins owner Bruce Sherman is a real jerk! Was about to have anothe top three pick next draft. Had just signed the top two international free agents at 17 years old who were gonna be studs. The farm system is loaded too. Guess that’s just realistic. Wonder how many gms this has happened to because I feel their pain now! Has to be because he had demanding as his personality or whatever.

Man, so frustrated. Got an offer job from the Mets who have 50 million budget and finished a little under .500. Thinking of just taking that job and spiting Bruce Sherman that jerk! Or might just restart and try again but learn from my mistakes. I like taking a terrible team and rebuilding it and find that the marlins have to be the most challenging. I like the challenge but Sherman clearly didn’t pay attention to what the cubs and Astros did.
Thing about the marlins is they have two awful contracts in Prado and Chen who I couldn’t trade. Think I’ll be able to tank for two seasons maybe three but have to satisfy his demands more often to keep him happy and by 2021 be atl east .500. Other option is restarting and just taking control of my favorite team the white sox but they’re too loaded in the farm and won’t be as big of a challenge. I like the challenge the marlins present so I might just try again or take the Mets job and see how it goes. |

You could go rogue commish style and just somehow be brought back in the fold. Or just be the Sam hinkie of the mlb.

Prado and chen are definitely hard to move.
I traded prado (ate roughly 15% of the last 2 years) , isan diaz, (2)1/2 star prospects, a 1st (was a late teens early 20s pick until my team bombed and it became #4 overall...) and a 5th for manny machado roughly 3-4 weeks before the deadline. Attempted to resign him and it just wasnt going to happen. He played really well in those few weeks before i shipped him off to boston (dropkick murphys pun intended) Machado, chen and his full remaining contract, 4th rd pick, 8th round pick, 4.5 mil cash (had a good surplus) for mookie betts and 250k cash. At first glance it doesnt look like a great deal but that #4 pick was in a weak draft. But machado left boston and signed a 7y $202 mil contract with st louis and had a 5.8war 33 hr and 115rbi next season. Betts signed a 6 year extension worth $122 mil and had a 6.0 war the next season hitting .313 31hr and 105rbi and we went 84-78. Hes got an opt out after year 4 of the extension which i figure to get a comp pick back. All in all it was worth it imo. I have a cornerstone player to build around. It did cost me starlin castro with his 16m option and for the marlins 20m a year isnt the easiest to work around but i trade guys that wont crack the lineup and get some cash returns to help. And i dont have that chen contract to weigh me down. Boston does keep trying to trade him to me |
