Does anyone know if there's a simple way to identify if a certain player was created by the game, or if he really exists/existed?
Without having to do a lot of internet research to find it out. For example, a user was wondering if a player in his historical game really existed, posted a week ago here. Am I missing it or is there really no way to find this out via the game? If not, this would be a future request. Doesn't sound too difficult to mark this somewhere, i.e. on the "Edit" screen when in commish mode. Or maybe even better, creating a .csv export "player_created_bio.csv" with a list of all players created by the game. |

If you check eliteprospects and hockeydb and they're not there, it's highly likely they're game-generated. The game will generate fictional players in historical mode if an AI team needs a player and there's literally no one they can sign, but the players are well below NHL standards and won't have much of a career.
There's no easy way of telling which players are fictional, short of looking them up online like that. Internally, we just check for an eliteprospects id when we want to know if someone's fictional or not (which, as far as I remember, only gets done during certain storylines we don't want occurring to real people.) |
