Procedure for Demotions - Not working the way I expected

After a 12 inning game, all of my relievers were worn out to one degree or another. In real life MLB, teams will often demote a player to the minors who has options remaining and promote a player temporarily to bolster the bullpen for a couple of games.

When I attempted to do this I chose a player who did not have the right to refuse a demotion and who had three options remaining on his contract.

After the demotion I set the player's game strategy to bench him long enough to be fully rested and after the player was restored to 100% I attempted to promote him back to the parent club. But promotion to the parent team was not enabled. (?!)

Anyone know what I should have known before attempting to do this? Is there some way I can salvage this player without putting him on waivers or DFAing him, (as the game seems to be insisting)?

Or is this a missing feature (or a bug) in the game?

Mysteriously, the promotion to the parent club appeared after I started this thread and I was able to restore my pitcher to the big league roster.

Not sure why the promote option suddenly appeared but it seems like the online manual should be clearer about this or have a section added to cover this scenario step by step since this is a common roster management device. I have a feeling there was some timing mechanism that I had to observe before being able to promote my pitcher.

Not sure why you weren’t able to promote initially. I will say, though, and I know this rule is NOT in OOTP, but IRL when you demote a player, that player must spend at least 10 calendar days in the minors before being recalled, barring injury.
