Whatever happened to Teflon Skies

I used to wait for him to display another stadium.
Then he just disappeared.

That is remarkable, come to think of it. All the work, all the contributions that some people have made . . . and then they just fade away.

There's one obvious explanation, of course. Incapacitation for one reason or another.

But aside from that, what would account for them walking away from a game that they loved enough to do what they did? Boredom? Bitterness? Life changes?

Probably, all of the above...plus, game changes, reading these forums, etc.

reds1 is someone to add to that list. He created 1969-2015 jerseys, caps, and I think logos and has been inactive for a while. It gets you thinking.

Yep. The sad reality is that some of them likely has passed away. Back when I would run online leagues and someone would ghost on the league, I'd think if they were in an accident or something. Especially if they were always active. I really starting thinking about that once someone in my league actually did pass away. The only reason I found out was his nephew was also in the league. That was a hard loss to take if I'm being honest. That's just the hard reality of socializing online. You rarely ever get closure.

All the more reason for us to enjoy the game and each other while we can. For a couple of reasons: In recognition of the ephemeral nature of this type of enterprise and to take our minds off the ephemeral nature of ourselves. As the numbers of birthdays increase, the more important that last part becomes.

Reds1 posted as recently as November 23rd, when he updated his United Leagues of Braeland thread. That is one brilliant dynasty!

FYI, reds1 has updated his United Leagues of Braeland again today, so he is very much still around.

I'm still in the land of the living thankfully, but personal circumstances have limited my ability to contribute to the mod community over the last number of years. I work full-time (for which I'm grateful) and now I'm a caregiver to my wife whose health is not the best, so simply making semi-regular updates to my dynasty is now a challenge. But hey, that's life and you have to set your priorities. If you can play OOTP and participate in the community on a regular basis then enjoy it while you can because things can change pretty quickly. That's what I've learned anyway.

I will also say that during the years I was really active in the mod forums, I spent little if any time actually playing OOTP and I eventually missed that. So I suspect others have experienced burnout like I did and wanted to move on. For some, that may mean that they left OOTP entirely or at least stopped visiting the forums as frequently as they once did.

To the list of those already mentioned, I would also add blueturf (last visited 09-28-2012), knuckler (05-25-2019) and truthserum (09-07-2018). I really miss those guys and hope they're doing alright. Coping with pandemics doesn't make things any easier, that's for sure. And its always tough to hear of the loss of some long-time community members. We may have not met them in person, but you still feel a void when you you realize they're no longer around.

But it's nice to be remembered and I really appreciate that.

Now if I can just find the 'Thanks' button, I'd be throwing them around left and right! (Boy, you leave for a couple of months and the whole place starts to fall apart....)
