An OOTP21 Great Lakes Team

Trying to kill time till the 20th, thought I'd ask for suggestions on one of my potential teams.

I plan of using all three slots; (1) a "historic-only" team, (2) an "all-cards" team - but I'll probably wait until the all-star break to start that team, and (3) a "Great Lakes" team. My initial idea was to include any players from Milwaukee, Chicago(Cubs & WS), Detroit, Cleveland, Toronto, and Montreal.

However; that only feeds my team roster with 7 out of 30 teams - a likely uphill battle that can't be won. If I add Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Minneapolis, and St. Louis, that gets me to 11 teams out of 30 - better, but still not equal the the number of players that are available for my historical-only team.

What do you guys think?

What's the game without a little handicap? St. Louis isn't on the Great Lakes. Is it even within a thousand miles?

I will do away with my all-pack and all-market teams and do a Mets team. Talk about limitations! I already watered it down by allowing pre-1958 (or 1962?) Dodgers and Giants as honorary Mets, and then maybe three to five "wild cards", y'know, for that Walter Johnson I'll pop in the first week.

I think theme teams come with limitations sometimes. You’d be better changing the theme than adding non-GL teams imo.

I managed to get to Perfect in 20 with all-Cincinnati, all-Indians, all-Phillies, all-Cardinals and all-White Sox teams. So it can be done.

But yeah, I think you're better off if you expand it to all-Midwest rather than just the Great Lakes. That will also bring in the St Louis Browns and Milwaukee Braves. And, you can also put in players *born* in Midwestern states.

Personally, I think his original pool is plenty large.

But you could swap the concept out for "Midwest" or even "Central" if you feel cramped for teams.

Sneakily, that's "Central North America," not just central U.S....heh

If you wanted to do a fun little research project, but a much less obvious "theme," how about "Players born between Longitude -90 and -140?"

Why not just start a friends league where everyone is limited to 7 or 8 franchises. Probably you should outlaw the NeL players, since they would be a very strong "franchise."

Good idea. Otherwise he will be seriously gimped against other teams.

It all depends what your goals are. This is a F2P team, and since the PT21 universe has been changed to let each team find it's own league level, trying to reach Perfect isn't the only goal any more. If this team settles out into a Gold - or even Bronze level, I'm going to be OK with that. The next question will be can I maintain a winning record under the new organization?

Rburgh has started thread for a FTP 8 team league, where you pick 8 teams to build your squad from. You might want to take a look!

Yeah, I saw that - but I don't have a good 8th team option to add to the Great Lakes. I was even hesitant adding Montreal, but at least that made a little sense. Too bad Buffalo never made it into the MLB...

Well, I doubt that anyone in the group would complain if you took 1 team less!

The 8 Team league proposal also lumps the Braves into one unit. You could use the Milwaukee Braves as a reason to use the full Braves history, or self-limit to just Milwaukee Braves players, as an 8th team.

Mississippi river valley states nets you the Twins and Cardinals, Milwaukee, both Chicago teams, Reds and the Indians. Since you're taking the Cardinals from MO, you get the Royals too.

That's eight, at the expense of the Canadian teams. And Ohio is a bit of a logical stretch.

Dodgers get no honor from being called Mets.
