NHL Draft Question

I am not sure if this is the bug, but I wasn't sure where exactly to ask this question.

I have just completed the 5th year of a custom league with fictional players (with a minor league and the junior leagues).

For the first 4 years the NHL draft produced too many good players. Typically the first round was all 5* ability players who would then become the best players in the NHL in their rookie year. Even the seventh rounds would typically produce 2.5* or 3* ability players in these first four drafts.

I was actually thinking about posting a comment about this quirk.

Suddenly in the fifth year of the draft the talent fell off a cliff. The best player available had a 4.5* ability and 5* potential. The next best players available were either two players with 3* ability and potential or a single player with 1/2* ability with 5* potential.

What happened?

Is there any way to balance this so the talent available is less extreme?

There obviously should be some year to year variation in the quality and quantity of players available, but perhaps not this extreme.

Let me know if there is anything that can be done or needs to be adjusted in the settings.

I am curious as to why the game would do this.

Thanks for any help or insight that you are able to provide.

NHL Draft Question

One thing to note, is that this is really the first draft that would have occurred after you restored my damaged database "fic2".

Technically the game was restored just prior to last year's draft, but by then that draft pool had already been set. This is the first pool of players post restoration.

I wondered if perhaps a setting was damaged with the crash and not updated in the restore.

Although to be fair this cohort of players looked poor even prior to the restoration, as none of the players had appeared on any of the junior leagues best by position in the year prior to their draft year.

Looking at a few custom games with junior leagues, the starting levels of the junior players are higher than I'd like to see. We'll tune that down a bit. There's nothing that would let you change that yourself, but the effect will largely be limited to the first few seasons of the game - the weaker drafts you see as you get farther in are closer to what "normal" should be, so the excessively talented players won't continue after that point (aside from the occasional rare super-talented player.)
