Fictional League Question

I was wondering if anyone could answer the following question for me. I have a fictional world that started out with a single major league. Over the seasons I added various independent leagues that will one day become minor league affiliates. (Great underappreciated function in my opinion) Anyway, is it possible to create an independent league that works in a bubble? Meaning I want the players in that league to only be able to play for other teams in the same league. Free agents could not leave the league and the other leagues free agents could not enter it. I have tooled around quite a bit and I do not think it is possible, but I have never claimed to be an ootp expert, so I thought I would ask the community here. Thanks for reading.

In league setup, on the Financials Tab - look for these two options, left side near the bottom:

Allow Free Agents from other Leagues

Allow Free Agents to leave League

If you disable those options, you can accomplish what you wish to.

Awesome! Amazes me sometimes how much you can actually do with this game. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Another thing you may want to try at some point, is taking the seven independent leagues,and create an "Association." I'm doing that right now in one of my leagues. So the independent leagues play in their respective leagues, Atlantic, Pecos, etc. and then at the end of their season, there's a playoff set up between the leagues. But, in order to do this properly, I had to add an 8th league for the playoff format to work. I haven't finished the season yet, so anxious to see how this plays out. Just decided one day to play the game this way.

I made the financials for each league the same, and put in a salary cap, to make it an even playing field for all teams.

Teams from all eight leagues can make trades with each other, but they can't trade with MLB, Mexican league, Nippon, etc.

I have done this! I agree it is pretty cool. The association feature is getting a lot of flack lately in the forums but I'm not sure why? I have used it a couple of times and have enjoyed the results.

@progen

I am doing something similar with associations - I have tiers of independent leagues in geographic regions, and want to introduce actual players from the milb and master files, but have them only play in their region. The only way I could prevent them from signing with teams from outside regions was to create a regional association. I think it is working, but in middle of first season.

@Hrycaj

I was one giving flack, because it tampered with my leagues settings after set up, and I had to use brute force to delete players I didn't want etc. So while it appears I have everything back to how I initially anticipated it seemed for a while the association feature wasn't providing much freedom. So rather than poor functioning it was more an issue of poor design and implementation. The main thing is it seems to be working now, which is to hide and channel players the way I want.

I get what you are saying now. Yea, I can understand why that would be annoying. I’m glad you at least got a work around to your issue. I have an issue right now that has completely stumped me so far. Unfortunately, nobody in the community has been able to help yet either.

I just finished my first season with an Association, tying in the seven independent leagues in the game, and adding an 8th for playoff purposes. But at the end of the season, There were the normal playoffs for each league, and then there should've been a playoff amongst the eight overall winners, but that never happen?

I deleted the league, and will start another one, as I did save it as a template. Maybe I missed something?
