Salary Cap Space Next Season?
Can someone tell me (preferably a developer) how this number is calculated?
I understand the concept, however, this number never seems to equal the number in the "Cap Obligations" chart for next season. In fact, it always seems to be a bit lower. Basically, I can never really guarantee where I am going to be cap wise next season until July 1st. Thanks. |

Cap Obligations is right, but it's only taking it account players who are currently on the NHL roster. So when someone signs an extension, it moves it slightly. Or it's somewhat hard to predict if you have someone signed to say an Entry Level Deal, putting the cap hit on doesn't make sense because if you still can send them back to the CHL then the contract doesn't appear on the books. This also affects how a players affects your cap if they are playing on a two way contract, or even if you've buried a one way in the minors. (And this is what Salary Obligations vs Cap Obligations is about).

Thanks for the response.
I still don't understand how the "Salary Cap Space Next Season" number is calculated, but the "Cap Obligations" number for next season is accurate and reliable (you are right), so I no longer have trouble working out next season's salary cap situation. |
