Historical Player League looking for 24 souls
OOTP leagues are popping up quickly and new leagues are becoming hard to fill (even more so when you have a 24 team league that is historic in nature) - But here is what I am looking to fill:
WEST COAST BASEBALL ASSOCIATION The league is made up of 24 teams in 2 leagues. The California League and Transcontinental League. Each league has 2 divisions. Both leagues are set up as Independent Leagues with no affiliation to any other team or league. (There is no MLB in this universe) The California League is teams all located in California and the Transcontinental League is made up of teams along the transcontinental railway which is central california all the way out to Nebraska. (you can google it) The team names MAY or MAY not be actual historical names BUT THE PLAYERS ALL WILL BE The starting year is 1946 I have erased all players (with few exceptions) that had more than 5 years of service time and included players from both the negro American and National Leagues (whose players I did not erase). This left players like Warren Spahn and Charlie Kelleher alongside Josh Gibson and Satchel Paige.. The concept for this action was to eliminate many of the older well established stars and leave many unknown and some known minor leaguers to fill the league. The teams were then randomly drafted by AI - no action taken by myself to influence the outcome. I have them erased all the service time and records for the entire league, so that all records that are set are set by these players not including any historic past players. Now the questions and hopefully the answers to those questions: 1. This is not meant to be a replay league. Players are not guaranteed to perform as they may have in actual history. 2. The reason for erasing the seasoned players is that this league will be looking to recreate history without the help of the Boston Red Sox or New York Yankees... “ “ but wait you said that Warren Spahn is in the league he was a great historic player - doesn’t that go against the concept of star players” - No the league is not against historic star players but instead it is started in a space in time BEFORE these players became stars. As the limit was 4 years or less most of these players were still toiling in the minors at this point. 3. Doing number 2 above makes the possibility of a unique history, since all minor leaguers were dumped into the same draft pool this will allow some players that may have never made it to the big leagues to play and develop alongside with players that were known to be stars... but in this case the stars may fail and the unknowns become stars. It creates its own history. 4. Players will enter the draft as they would have going forward from 1946 but in this league the color barrier has been turned off so it will open up the possibility of more diverse group of players. A few rules, and thoughts that will dictate the league... This will be a form of historic league, it will include historical players starting in 1946 - Several of these players may be unknown by many, but they are in fact real players. We will progress towards the present.... THERE WILL NOT BE ANY MIKE TROUT’S or BRYCE HARPERS for quite some time.....keep this in mind when considering this league, these are old guys please don’t sign up and then realize you only know like 5 guys and then want to quit.... 1. The sim frequency is 3 days a week (M W F) it will be a week at a time per sim. Please understand that is the schedule, that may be to slow for some - so do not ask about the league if this is not a schedule that appeals to you. 2. League activity... been a part of several leagues and have found the difference between the good and bad is owner participation. This is easy to say and it always comes back that the commissioner should do more to enhance activity.... This is just dead wrong, the commissioner can not do anymore to spur activity if the owners have no interest in doing so.... So I leave that up to GM’s - if you want to have an active league, be active otherwise it becomes a very subdued league which for some may be fine, but that is the biggest issue..... The commissioner will do what he can but if GM’s don’t participate it will never be active league. 3. Exports and league interest, the league takes time to run and maintain as well as to pay for the hosting. None of these are the concern of the GM’s but what is of concern is the GM’s doing there job : running your team. The league can take as little as 15 minutes a week. After sims check results, reset lineups if needed and export. That is all and this is where things fall apart, GM’s put teams in auto-pilot and don’t stay involved. Therefore all GM’s are required to export a minimum of twice a week PERIOD. There will be no allowance for missing multiple sims. If you cannot do this do not apply. 4. The league will use Stats-Plus... Dave is an awesome guy and what he provides is what we would need for hosting. 5. Slack will be used for all league communications. it is easy to set up and easy to use - All managers would need to have it and use it. 6. See #3 & 5 - Much like the export concept the same holds true for Slack, answer messages, check-in and stay involved- long periods of being away will lead to assumption of no interest. 7. Most important of all - this is meant to be fun and competitive, it is not meant to be stressful or regimented. We all have lives and things happen (they just do) so it is understood. But everyone needs to be honest, if you cannot commit do not bother. An open team is better than a team claimed and then GM ghosts the league. 8. I am open to thoughts and suggestions to make the experience better for all. But all suggested changes to the league will require a majority vote. GAME SETTINGS: (General - If you have a question - please ask) Scouting is on - set to Normal Ratings will be 20-80 Overall & Potential on - 20-80 Coaching will be off Finances are on.. and are what the game provides.. Each team will have a 25 man roster (pre-drafted) Each team will also have an affiliated minor league team with 25 man roster (pre-drafted) Due to the era the reserve clause rule is in place. This means that all players are signed to the teams they are on for their entire career unless they are released or traded. Since this means all players will automatically have contracts renewed it creates two opposite effects. The first effect is it makes the idea of dealing with contracts and finances somewhat irrelevant- this makes trading and player movements much harder. But it also creates the change for a GM to build a team and not have to worry about contracts and demands forcing sales. Agin this could effect the leagues trading activity - BUT SHOULD NOT AFFECT THE OVERALL LEAGUE ACTIVITY. This is the basic outline of the league - I will post the structure and teams in a separate post as well as the roster for the Major Team - not the minor league team This is not a league that will rush to open - I need 24 GM's - I will not start with 8 or 10 or 12 - If I cannot get a full boat (or close to it) - I will not run this - So please also understand that when thinking about joining. There is no reason to open a league that is almost all empty . If interest - P.M. me here |

Seems like a solid group of owners so far. If you are into a unique historical league, this one has a lot of potential.

It is super difficult to fill these leagues anymore with so many popping up and people filling them
This promises to be a solid - competitive league - with historic players We need about 19 more to start |

Finances?
Hi Tinker2evers,
Thank you for letting me take the Tigers. Your wrote, "Finances are on.. and are what the game provides." Can you give us an idea of what the finances will look like? What about the stadiums also? |

What is meant by that is the financials are as the game assigned, I have not done anything to alter them. OOTP financials can be challenging at best since they do not follow any real accounting rules... So I always try not to do much with them. They are all set to 1946 salaries and such
The stadiums will vary in capacity - I will get the specifics to you guys here in the next day or so... |

We are at 10 souls at the moment... we are Almost halfway to the 24 needed.
If you like historic player leagues this is one of those. I will be getting the league file uploaded by Tuesday so all GM’s and prospective GM’s can start to see the lay of the land |

I sure do hope this league gets enough people to join. It's going to be fun. I've already researched the players on my team. In real life, 4 were All-Stars and 5 never made it past AA. No telling how they'll perform for me.

Thanks for this! Since I am totally new to OOTP21, can you tell me (us), when the time comes, how to download files and how to submit line-ups to you?

Soon to be starting
Guys/gals, sign up soon. This league will be starting very shortly. An initial draft of players is being discussed tonight on Slack (instead of the pre-assigned players listed above for each team). That is because there are less GMs than planned (currently at 12).
The one BIG advantage to this league is that it won't take a ton of committed time to operate your team. You will only have one minor league team to deal with AND sims are only 3 times a week. If you've been afraid to join a league because you don't have the time, this may be your league. Last edited by Joseph_James; 08-01-2020 at 10:29 PM. |
