Can't Can't Play Preseason Due to World Cup Callups
When I try to play the first preseason game it tells me that there 'Not enough skaters to make lineup'. So I can't get past this day.
This situation is created by the World Cup (which starts like two days before NHL preseason!) calling up 13 of my players making them all unavailable for the preseason as seen in the screenshot. I brought in 20 skaters by calling up almsot my entire AHL team. I then had the AI fill my lines. Though there are F playing D* there appear to be no other errors. Still not letting me advance! * I even tried to edit the three forwards slotted at D to have D ratings but that didn't work either. (BTW - The computer once again sent down my waiver eligible bench players without my permission as well...) Last edited by Zeke K; 07-11-2020 at 07:54 PM. |

Go to free agents, and sign players to Try Outs. You'll be able to get what you need. This is something you can do on your own. If you have players playing out of position (ie: Forwards playing D), you may still get an error.

Thanks for the workaround to get my game going.
This is still an issue that makes preseason basically pointless. There is the whole summer to have this event, even a week earlier would help. Why have this overlap? |

I can appreciate that it's faithful to real life scheduling. But what works in real life may not work for the game.

It can work just fine, but you need to be aware of what is going on. If you're running a team with under 40 contracts (and in reality, under 44), you're likely going to be dealing with a lot of issues. The World Cup only comes around once every four years, and you should be able to account for it with Try Outs and keeping some of your prospects (who you can also offer tryouts to) to fill your roster, whether they are signed or not.

This was driving me nuts too, but I didn't know you could sign your prospects to tryouts. On a somewhat related note, if I have a player signed to an NHL contract but on my AHL team be able to be called for international duty (mid-season tournaments, not World Cup)? I would think they would be bound to the NHL agreement and have to stay on the AHL squad. |
