Losing streaks?

I'm a new guy here so maybe I don't understand how this all works but....I've won my division every year I've played as shown in the banners (Dawgs). Then usually killed in the first round by some WC team that sneaks in...meh whatever. So last night I go to bed with a 6 1/2 game lead in my division...turn on the PC today (not working remote anymore) and I find my team dropped 12 in a row and like 14 out of 17. I look back and the majority of the losses are to some pretty weak sauce teams....most below .500

So yeah it's baseball, any given Sunday sure....

So here's the thing and I guess maybe my question/point...every single year the team follows the exact same pattern...massive losing streak about this time of the year and then goes on a a streak the '27 Yankees would be envious of....

Is this something that is built into the game to repeat the same pattern every year? Does not seem very realistic that Bagwell drops almost 45 points in BA since last night??

Do I have companions out there who have endured the crazy losing streaks which make zero sense? Or am I the Lone Ranger here?

At Rookie, Iron and Bronze, your competitors are completing the live missions to get much better starters, and likely also adding in some decent card pulls from packs.

If you aren't keeping pace with the improvements, then they'll start catching up. They may also be running strategies to maximize their teams' strengths.

It doesn't get any easier as you climb up the food chain. That shot above is for my diamond level team that played for the gold championship 5 days ago.

That screenshot look awfully familiar lol

I'm pretty sure if the script plays the same as it always does, I'll win the division and then get smoked by a WC team.

Trust n\me, I'm trying to improve with Golds and Diamonds at every position. I'm leery of dropping some big PP on some of these cards. I've seen the Max Schwerzer's of the world get hammered in my Iron league......he might as well been a 75 card

Don't waste money on live cards not named Trout. They woefully underperform, and it gets worse every step you take up.

Getting there is loads of fun. Reaching the end...not so much.

The wild card carnival is just a minor irritation you'll get to experience dozens of times.

I've noticed the same thing... and when it puts you on a losing streak there is nothing you can do to break it. You can change the lineup, add new playefrs, buy a better pitcher... nothing works. My team was doing fine until the recent streak started. The AI is letting pitchers with 60's ratings beat a loaded lineup and 90's pitchers. Sure that can happen once in a while in baseball... but lots of times???

Exactly. In fact, the reason ootp mobile is delayed is because all of the resources are being dedicated to coding the game so that your team hits a losing streak

I understand losing streaks happen, but I have now played 10 PT seasons and have had 10 game losing streaks in 7 out of 10 seasons so is this just a coincidence??? not sure.

I have been mostly in the Stone Leagues.

I have also had multiple 6 and 7 game losing streaks during the season.

Another factor that hasn't been mentioned is that the "weak" teams in the league might have been losing because they were training their best players out of position. Come September, those teams will often switch the lineups to the best possible defense... and since they've been training, the AI has more flexibility when making substitutions.

The playoffs are a different matter. Even in real life, best-of-5 series are a crapshoot... and in PT, most teams have weaknesses that an active manager can exploit. So I wouldn't expect whether or not the team got into the playoffs via the wild card to be anywhere near as much of a factor in success as whether or not the manager is logged in and making adjustments on Sunday.

And people can make substantial upgrades to their team right through the last game of the playoffs.

I started this thread way back when and man have I learned a lot since then lol

Yeah when your team is on the schneid there is not a whole lot you can do about it.....sort of like when you buy a high PP player and the guys ends up hitting 210 with 3 HR in 150 AB (Sisler 98 cough cough)

My second team is in Iron..I finally started paying attention to it and have turned it into a semi juggernaut by finishing the Live Missions. They are currently 111-45? After destroying the league every month without a losing streak, the engine made it so...lol lost 10 out of 12 recently (still have a 19 game lead) Some of those losses were to a 55-100 team...true story

My goal is to try to ride the SE team up to Diamond and see if I can terrorize true Diamond teams....SE teams in Diamond have caused more managers there to lose their minds when playing them.

I'm sure I've lost at least 5 or 6 games to SE laced teams this year...99 Maddux SE I get...... others not so much lol

You may win the odd game or two, but terrorizing .... No.

I could see that, but I've already trained players into multiple positions and use late inning defensive substitues. Somethging is just weird when these streaks happen. I usually check out the team that beat me, and in some of these streaks they are teams with players having horrible defensive ratings. Sounds like it happens to quite a few people so maybe its just something you have to deal with.

Another thing nobody's mentioned yet--watch the game scores. If you're suddenly losing by 8, 10 runs, your bullpen may be gasping for air, exhausted.

If you lost by 36, it's waaaaay more obvious ;p

---

If the other teams all mysteriously git gud right after the all star break, this is totally normal and happens every season. This is a pay2win title--and yep, the other teams often get mysterious late-season steroid shots.

---

Possibly even more frustrating--perhaps they've simply figured you out. "Losing record against lefties, eh? Think I can work another lefty start into this series..." You can do some pretty amazing things with 7day lineups and spare starters in your bullpen.

So it happened again, the last two weeks of September in contention for a WC/Playoff spot and I my team goes 2-8. I lost 5 out of 6 to a team W/L (68-94) that out scored my team 32-18 with league ratings of:
Runs 23rd, Avg 22nd, ERA 25th vs mine of Runs 10th, Avg 3rd, ERA15th

Then the final 4 games I go 3-1 against the top team in the division out scoring them 32-13. (note they did use their normal pitching staff.

Runs 12th, Avg 12th, HR's 1st, ERA 2nd

Its a strange game, but "come on man" lol.

I have gone exactly 86-76 (3) times in the Stone League, 87-75 and 88-75 making the playoffs twice and missing the other times by no less than 2 games at the end of the season.

I had a 6 game lead in my division 90 games into the season and just dropped 11 games in row. I would fire the manager but he is me.
