Unhappy Sad news - R.I.P. Spritze

Hey friends,

I have some sad news to share. Chuck Hauser, who you know by the forum name Spritze, has passed away.

Chuck has been part of the OOTP family for, well, essentially forever. He has been managing the historical database, was a trusted beta tester and part of the community. But above all, he was a terrific person with a great sense of humor. I can't count how often I have been laughing out loud when reading his emails. This news makes me really, really sad. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Chuck, whereever you are, we will miss you. Rest in peace my friend.

Markus & the entire OOTP Team

Very sad news. Not just the historical database guru - he was an OOTP legend... I enjoyed batting around ideas with him in the historical beta group, helping each other out with testing, workarounds, prepping files, and whatever else... His ultra-dry wit, comically odd-ball references to squid, secret sauce, and other sometimes off-the-wall food items were often cause for a chuckle. I didn't get to know him outside of the OOTP boards and in emails, but I've no doubt that he was a genuine hoot in person.

RIP, Chuck.

(Here's a link to an article from a few years ago, about OOTP introducing historical minor leagues. Chuck is mentioned and quoted in it. https://www.polygon.com/2016/3/6/111...orical-rosters)

Awful news! I'm not a historical player, but I would check out the historical database issues thread just to read his posts.

That's really sad. I was on the beta team for a short time and he was a pleasure to work with, always open to suggestions though I was a newbie. Hope his family is doing well.

Wow, this is just awful news. His contributions to OOTP are immeasurable. His databases were the backbone of my early OOTPing and he more than anyone else is responsible for the official database that drives the game now.

On a personal note, a few years ago, the online league I'd been running for a decade (which I'd started with one of his databases) had become too buggy to keep playing. I was faced with shutting down the league or somehow rebooting it. He worked very patiently with me over a summer helping me compile the league history into a database that I could use to recreate the league. A few years later, we're still going. My beloved league would have folded if it wasn't for his help.

Rest in peace, Chuck. All the best to his family and friends.

I just messaged him yesterday about a Negro League player. That is terrible news. He has been so helpful to me personally and has been great advancing OOTP to the heights it is at now.

Oh, how we cried the day you left us
We gathered round your grave to grieve.
I wish I could see the angels faces
When they hear your sweet voice sing.

for all Spritze has done for the game (and gamers) i think dedicating ootp22 to him would be a nice touch.

Condolences to family and friends. I talked with him on the boards a few times. A very personable and humble man who knew what he was talking about. He will be sorely missed by everyone who he touched in life.

Godspeed to you on your next journey.

Well I Usually Import Real Historical Players using Spritze on my League Files to a League which has nothing but Fictional Players so Imported them Annually starting in 1901, but we will miss you Mr. Spritze a.k.a. Chuck Hauser, maybe OOTP will use Issue a Database for Real Historical Japanese & Korean Players into my fictional league

RIP

My prayers and condolences are with his family.

Spritze will be truly missed by the OOTP Community... he was a very, very special guy... not only did he contribute his vast baseball knowledge and resources to help Markus and OOTP, he would help all of us when called upon for our personal needs.

Spritze went way above and beyond for me in helping me create my Southern Association dynasty replay... he provided me with Southern Association stats for 1946 to 1960... team stats and individual stats so I could recreate the league as closely as possible.

May he rest in abundant peace forever.

Legend.

His sense of humor could be hard to tell through board messages. I would enjoy reading people's reaction to some of his writings.

He's a name on these boards that when you saw he contributed to a thread, you had to read.
