Draft budget
question about draft budget
It is set at $150,000 for my 1969 league. I'm offering the number one pick in the draft $136,000 which leaves me only $14,000 for all the rest of my picks. Is there anything I can do to salvage this? I'm unable to change the budget because it's during the season and trying to figure out how to sign these guys thanks |

In my experience, you should still be able to sign the other draft picks - exceeding your budget - provided you still have the cash available to do this and you don't have a really meddlesome owner.

Exactly. Your draft budget it just that, a budget, not a hard number. Unless you have overspent and used all of your overall budget.

I had this problem a couple seasons ago. During the early stages of bonus negotiations, my owner refused to allow me to go over budget. Frustrating as heck. Towards the end though (perhaps last week before the signing deadline) he opened things up and gave me access to my current overall budget and I magically had more funds to allocate.

well as it turns out he let me sign most of the draftees however now it's time for signing international free agents and he won't let me sign any of them.
It says "your owner does not approve this deal, you do not have enough money available!" Anything I can do? Thanks |

A couple things.
1. Get an owner willing to let you spend more money 2. Stay where you are and learn how win with limits. |

Without more details, I'm not sure your owner is the problem. |

I have $51,000 allocated to international amateur FA which doesn't allow me to sign anyone decent. I need at least 60 K. Is there any way I can allocate more money to this? thanks |

You can't change your budgets during the season but - as I've noted twice before - look at your cash available. THAT is your limit, combined with the 51K.
But keep in mind that you don't want to use all of your available cash for international FA's in case you want to make other transactions moving forward. As a newbie, this is a good learning experience. Pay attention to your budgets when they are being set in the off-season. |

That was a lesson delivered to me a couple of months ago with a 2-by-4 as I continue to go through the learning process.

I'm playing a fictional league with 2020 finances and have an owner who took control of the draft budget and put almost $26 million in it. It took me half a season to realize what he's doing. I ended up with about $20 million left over that wasn't released into the general budget until the draft-pick signing deadline, which is after the trade deadline. So I can't use that money for anything. It's pure profit, or looking at it another way, he's claiming to have given me a budget that's significantly larger than it really is.
Maybe this is common in the game, but it's the first time I've experienced it. |

He cut it to $16 million for the second season and let me set the international free-agent budget. (That would be zero, boss.) Relationship with owner growing.
