Deleted league still showing as default

In my historic fictional baseball sim, I have leagues that cease to exist.

Whenever I start the game, however, the league dropdown at the top of the game is one of these deleted leagues. Once I select an existing league, the deleted league is no longer an option.

I've tried save the file and exiting OOTP with the active league selected, but nope, when the game restarts -- the now inactive league shows there again.

A minor annoyance. Any thoughts? Note that the new league just started this year (and the old leagues just deleted). Maybe this will self-correct after playing the season?

Hey...I'm elevating this because after both advancing the game to the next season and installing the latest patch, this issue is still in game, meaning that it appears it will be with me forever. The only thing I have not tried is deleting the game and doing a full reinstall.

For the record, I have also gone back to backups and tried again...every time this deleted league continues to show up as the default.

While its just an annoyance, I'd like to see if there is a solution.

No one has experienced this? I'm starting to assume that OOTP cannot handle deleted leagues. So, if you have a historic league that doesn't exist any more it has to stick around forever? Something is amiss here and this little problem is clearly never going to go away, forcing me to start over after months and months of work.

A deleted league in OOTP isn't truly deleted from the db, it's still present but inactive.

What will completely remove a deleted league from your save is if you run the purge tool.

Once you run that the league will be gone for good.

Just be careful when doing this and make a backup of the league first, as the tool is pretty powerful and there's a small chance something could go wrong.

Thank you Lukas. I've long forgot about that tool. I will try it.

The question I have is about history, though. A deleted team still exists -- it simply shows up as inactive. All of its history is maintained. It seems like the purge tool will annihilate that. That's not what I want. I just want a defunct league (read=inactive, not erroneous) to stop showing up in the league drop down menu.

UPDATE:
OK, with a copy of the game file, I used the purge tool

The deleted league is still showing as default.

I'll send you the file. Something else is happening, or as was being discussed in another thread, perhaps OOTP cannot handle deleting the original league in the game?
