Managing the Mariners
So I know I had a thread going Sleepless in Seattle but it was taking too long to try and play every game and be the GM and as a relatively new player to the game I've just gone back to being a GM in this Save and trying to get the Mariners to the playoffs and end that drought.
I'll do a month at a time and highlight who does well and who needs to be shipped off to the Minors. |

April 2022
Staff
Well the first order of business is to fire my Scouting Director and Team Trainer as they weren't fantastic and if we are going to have a decent tilt at the postseason and then build on that then we need the best available staff. R.J. Harrison is hired as the new Scouting Director after a bit of negotiating with the salary. He is Excellent across all categories except Scouts Major Leagues which is Good and Rick Jameyson is our new Team Trainer who has no rating under Good and the bug one, Prevent Arm Injuries is Legendary. Transactions Before Opening Day in Minnesota, the decision was made to trade 39 year old RP Sergio Romo and 23 year old minor league RHP Bryce Miller to the Phillies for 25 year old 3B Alec Bohm and 18 year old 1B Jordan Viars. ![]() OSA rates Viars a little better (53 POT vs 48 POT) than my Scouting Director and could be a very handy 1B in the future. Our next move was to send 24 year old RHP Levi Stoudt to the Cardinals for 24 year old 1B Juan Yepez back. The plan is for Yepez to act as a DH when Winker plays LF. ![]() And our final trade of April was 31 year old CF Billy Hamilton was sent to Kansas City for a player package. In return we got 26 year old SS Ivan Castillo (to be a backup for JP Crawford), 17 year old LF Henry Ramos and 24 year old 2B Michael Massey back. Henry Ramos (Playing Rookie League) ![]() Michael Massey (Playing for Arkansas in AA) ![]() Ivan Castillo (Playing for Seattle) ![]() Games For the month of April we went 14-7 which was good enough for 1st place in the AL West. Was worried how we'd go against Houston and Tampa Bay but we went 2-1 against both sides. Finished the month with Julio Rodriguez ending up on the IL for Personal Leave and with Kyle Lewis still on rehab assignment, Taylor Trammell gets his chance. Batting Stats ![]() Pitching Stats ![]() Love the numbers that Erik Swanson put up for the month of April and so did MLB with Swanson winning AL Pitcher of the Month. |

May 2022
Games
May was a bit of a rough month for us with the side going 13-14 including getting swept at Houston, dropping 2 of 3 to the Mets, Blue Jays, Red Sox but we finished may strong with a sweep of Houston at home and taking 2 of 3 against Oakland. We finish May 2.5 games behind the Angels (30-20) with our 27-22 record and we are half a game back from the Blue Jays in the AL Wild Card. On the player front, we welcomed Kyle Lewis and Julio Rodriguez back to the squad. JP Crawford had an absolutely stellar May with the bat. He batted .409 ABG and went 38 from 93 with 3 HR and 17 and both Rodriguez and Kelenic hit 7 HRs. Batting Stats ![]() On the pitching side of things, Gilbert and Flexen got beaten up but nowhere near as bad as Tommy Malone who pitched 2 innings in relief and got smacked for 9 hits and 7 earned runs. Pitching Stats ![]() Transactions Well after his dreadful showing, Malone was DFA'd, didn't want to be demoted and no one would trade for him, the decision was made to release Malone. We need a player who can do a bit of everything, 2B, SS and maybe a little outfield and we were very lucky as Mauricio Dubon became available on Waivers. A claim was lodged and he joined us on May 6th with 2B Dylan Moore being assigned to AAA Tacoma. Only one trade from us this month with 1B Mike Ford being traded to the Cardinals for 24 year old LF Lars Nootbaar who we will play at AAA Tacoma until roster expansion where Nootbaar will play as an RF to fill the void left by Haniger if he leaves during Free Agency at Season's end. |

June 2022
Games
Well, if we thought may was bad, June was an unmitigated disaster from both a game stand point and an injury stand point. Where do I begin? We lost 11 of the first 12 games for the month of June. Through the month we were swept by Baltimore twice, Houston twice and the Red Sox once. Our record for the month was a disgraceful 8-21 with those wins coming against Oakland (3 of 4), Los Angeles Angels (3 of 5), Texas and Minnesota (1 of 3). Our bats were quiet in June with only two players (France and Rodriguez) have an average of more than .300 with the latter scoring 17 runs in the month. Batting Stats for June ![]() Was an equally rough month for our pitchers with not one Starter having an ERA under 3.00 for the month. Ray, Kirby, Brash and Flexen all had an ERA of greater than 6.00 with Ray giving up 29 hits and 8 home runs in just 17.0 innings. Thankfully he got injured had finished the month on 15-Day IL. Pitching Stats for June ![]() Bright spots for the month? None. We have gone from 27-22 at the end of May to 35-43 and find ourselves in 3rd in the AL West, 16 games back from the Angels and somehow only 2.5 behind the 36-39 Astros..... Transactions Started the month by looking at my 3B options and deciding to ship off Toro to Texas and got 24 year old SP Kolby Allard and 23 year old 2B Trevor Hauver in return. Both are decent prospects and will hopefully be ready for AAA during the year. Allard (Playing at Arkansas AA) ![]() Hauver (Playing at Arkansas AA) ![]() Frazier (2B) and White (1B) started rehab assignments in AAA and with his form in a real slump, Jesse Winker was Optioned to Tacoma AAA with Lars Nootbaar getting called up in his place. To round out the month, Lewis (Calf strain - 3 weeks) and France (broken bone in elbow - 7 months) ended up on the 10 day IL and 60 day IL respectively. Can we have a bit of a better July? God, I hope so! Last edited by lachiehare2022; 07-24-2022 at 09:08 AM. |

July 2022
Well, after what can only be described as a s***house June, as GM I had to make some changes and get this club back on track and try to either take back first place (16 game deficit) or work on securing one of the three Wildcards.
Games Well, anything would have been better than June but here we are after June with a 16-9 record where we managed to swept the Nationals in DC and the Astros in Seattle while taking 3 out of 4 from the Astros in Houston and 4 of 7 from Texas along with some wins over the Blue Jays, Padres and Athletics. Across the batters, we had an even spread of runs and hits. Rodriguez and Kelenic batted .376 and .330 for the month and a WAR of 2.0 and 1.8 respectively and both hit 8 home runs. Batting Stats ![]() Pitching in July was much better than June with our only starter having an ERA of 4.00 being Matt Brash who is now having a spell in AAA and the Bullpen did an excellent job of keeping the game in our favour. Pitching Stats ![]() Team Stats ![]() Transactions So, we had a very active July as we shipped off some bigger names who just weren't justifying there spot in the organisation. July 9 - CCal Raleigh was sent to the Arizona Diamondbacks for LHP Joe Mantiply, 18 year old 3B Manuel Pena and 19 year old Luis Gonzalez. When Arizona approached me with this deal it was a no-brainer. Mantiply is a great addition to our bullpen for the rest of the season and Pena is a 3B that in the 2021 Rookie League for the Diamondbacks was hitting .253 with a WAR of 2.4 and will be a nice piece of the puzzle in the future. July 10 - The Seattle Mariners get 24 year old 2B Pedro Leon (who becomes our #7 Prospect) and 22 year old 3B Justin Williams for CF Mitch Haniger who heads to Houston. Yep, Haniger is out of Seattle to our division rivals and that did come back to haunt us when he hit a walk-off HR in Houston, first game against us but he was a free agent at season's end and I have Kelenic, Lewis, Nootbarr and Rodriguez in the outfield who are all producing better numbers with the bat than Haniger. July 22 - As stated before, I had my outfielders set and Winker wasn't producing with the bat so we traded him across to the Phillies for 23 year old C Rafael Marchan and 25 year old RHP James McArthur in return. McArthur is now out #16 Prospect in Triple AAA and Marchan will be a great backup catcher next season. July 31 - Heading into Deadline Day, we need to upgrade a Defence at both C and 2B to finish the season. The first trade was we picked up C Roberto Perez from the Pirates for a Minor League prospect. Then after that C Luis Torrens went to the Twins for 24 year old RF Matt Wallner which freed up the roster space for us to trade a Minor League 1B to the Reds for 2B Donovan Solano who will just be a rental until seasons end. And to finish of the Deadline Day, we shipped 2B Adam Frazier to the Blue Jays for 24 year old LF Samad Taylor. Both Taylor and Wallner will be in our minor system and be available should one of our outfielders head to the IL. Thanks for reading and I'll show off our Draft picks in the next post tomorrow! 2022 Draft
We headed into the 2022 looking for some good prospects to bolster our minor league system, we have the 6th best ranked system with Noelvi Marte being the 5th ranked prospect.
Our Picks ![]() 20 year old 2B Colby Halter seemed like a great pickup for us as we didn't have any young 2B prospects of note coming through and Halter in his college stats batted .277 with a WAR of 1.3 in just 44 games. Here are his stats: ![]() Next up we decide to go with 19 year old SP Luis Rujano who has great potential with what he can throw, the control is a bit of a concern but we can deal with that. Luis Rujnao Stats ![]() We then decided to add an outfield prospect to our system, keep our farm nice and balanced with up and coming talent. Max Williams from Clay High School was our third pick. OSA rates his potential as 80 as you can see below but our scouting rates his potential as 68. Either way, if he can develop into the player he is forecast to be he could be a star of the future. ![]() The others we either didn't sign or are just run of the mill bit players. We are very happy with our selection and hope our minor league staff can develop these picks into stars of the future. |
