Baserunning AI makes no sense

I'm using a custom ballpark modeled after the Polo Grounds so the dimensions to the far corners are 450 feet. I took a screenshot of a hit to right center where the ball is sitting at the warning track and the center fielder is still approaching it. For some reason both base runners stopped at 2nd and 3rd bases at this point. The team's baserunning strategy is at the most aggressive setting, although even at normal setting I would expect both base runners to keep advancing in this situation.

The animation is just a presentation of the result. The results are not happening in "real-time" as the animations happen.

So, what you are seeing doesn't really have anything to do with the "base running AI"...it is an animation that doesn't match up very well with the play.

They are constantly making improvements to the 3D animation, but weird ballparks like the Polo Grounds are likely going to present a lot of these kind of issues.

Thanks for the info. What you say does explain other observations. An ideal simulation would take into account ballpark dimensions and make for more exciting gameplay visuals.

It would be awesome but it would also require a ground-up reworking of the game engine. Right now all the game really “cares” about are the park factors. The dimensions do get used for flavor and, in cases like the Polo Grounds, the game will “direct” more HRs to the shorter fences than deep center (I’ve seen balls go out there though), but that’s basically it.
