AI Teams not signing their star players on other teams farm teams

My farm team signed Ovechkin in 2003. He was drafted by another NHL team (the Wild) in 2004. He is still with my farm team in the 2009-2010 season. Surely the Wild would have signed him by now - he's 3.0/3.5 (by my scouts, consensus shows 2.5/4.0)

And it's not just him. My farm team also has Doughty and Oshie though Doughty is only 20 but already 3.5/3.5 and Oshie is 23 years old and a 3.0/4.0.

I did have Mike Green on my farm team in 2004 as well (drafted by Predators in 2004 as well) who finally signed him June 30, 2009 so maybe Ovechkin will finally be signed this off season but does seem the NHL AI teams are taking a long time so sign these guys.

They're actually contracted to the farm team? That's not supposed to be happening in historical (and will produce the rights you're seeing); we fixed an issue with that once before, but that was years ago. Can you upload that save? I'm not seeing any players like that in the 2001 save you uploaded earlier, and I'd like to see why that's started happening again.

I think the first time it happened wasn't until 2003 with Ovechkin (Oshie and Green were signed by my farm team in 2004, Doughty in 2007).
I'm fairly certain it happened when I was under my farm team's lineup and clicked on "Assistant: Setup Organization".

A few images here too. First showing them as contracted to WBS and then Greens details where it shows him signed by WBS and then a few years later actually signed by the NHL team which drafted him.

Ah, that explains it, the AI Assistant must be ignoring the restriction on not signing players directly to the farm team in historical, that should be easy enough to fix. Looks like no other minor league teams in your save have signed anyone, so that has to be it.

I'm just surprised the other teams haven't signed their players. It took 4 or 5 seasons but Nashville signed Mike Green who my farm team signed originally.
Ovechkin is now 27 and still playing in Wilkes-Barre and down to a 3.0 ability. He might end up being a career minor-leaguer.. lol

I suppose I could edit him, Oshie, and Doughty (though he's still just 22 in my game) and set them to NHL with free rights and let some team pick them as Free Agents or I can just let it play out and see if they ever get signed by the teams that drafted them originally.

It's not that they won't sign them, it's that they can't. The "farm league" in historical isn't intended to sign players directly, and (for other reasons) the playable leagues have a setting that doesn't allow them to sign players contracted to other leagues. So if a player somehow gets contracted to a historical farm team, he won't leave and will, under most circumstances, just keep renewing the contract with the farm team (since it's in a non-playable league, the contracts auto-renew every year.)

Is this a similar issue in the early days, with the WCHL and NHL? I ask because in 1922, I couldn't sign Cale Makar (hey, random debut!), since he was drafted by both my team (Toronto St. Pats) and Seattle in the WCHL, and I didn't sign him right out of the gate (whereas they did). His contract came up and was renewed. I finally just edited his contract to my team. I probably should have let it play out, but had I known I either would not have drafted him or would have offered immediately.

No, the more apt description for that would be the NHL and the KHL currently. No formal agreement in place but they honor each other's contracts.
