A repost from season 1921 in my Bucs save...
... I thought worth sharing on here for those that don't visit the Historicals board.
Just one of the many reasons why in a lot of ways I prefer the simulated world to the real one. No Covid, lockouts or human drama, the ability to do away with racism at the check of a box, and this sort of thing involving the mighty Heavy Johnson from the A's. IRL no doubt he would have sat out the final game as his average was right on 400 and the game had no bearing in the standings. Here, he plays it like it is any other game. Gets 2 hits in 5 AB to preserve his 400 for the year. Both hits are homers. Drives in 5. Team wins 7-3. Gotta love this game, dontcha? ![]()

Amazing stuff. Amazing that a guy 5-7 and 200 pounds stole any bases; but his stats in Baseball Reference include lots of them. He would have been a force in MLB in the 1920's, as you are demonstrating. Too bad he was at the end of his career by the time of my 1932 simulation.

Ted Williams would have contratulated him.
Then he would have pointed out he went 6 for 8 in a double header on the last day of 1941 to hit .406.

Yeh, I’ve gone so far as to go pretty much exclusively fictional players for several years now, for several reasons…
- I like the feel of historical seasons but this way I can just do away with not only the color line but softer racism like there being limited Black players on teams like the Red Sox and Cardinals heading into the 60s - I like talent change randomness but it also feels weird when a Hall of Famer I like just turns into crap - For pitchers especially there are guys who are great for one or two seasons who never quite hit that, in large part because we didn’t realize at the time that they were very lucky. Like, Mark Fidrych was… fine but somehow it feels a little less when he goes like 14-11 and 3.15 in his big breakout season. Now I have players I have no attachment to having those big BABIP years and I can just, like, pretend that they’re the Bird or something - Personality ratings are randomly assigned and I’m much more comfortable dealing with a fictional clubhouse cancer than, like, if Roberto Clemente is created as one - Likewise, team chemistry is an aspect of the game I think is really interesting and I want to see a Cleveland Crybabies type situation because it would be fun, but I don’t want to have to break up teams that historically played together for a long time I can probably come up with more but that will do it for me for now!
