How to get players to import with original teams?

I can't seem to get players to import to their real life team. I did start the save with the amateur draft on but turned it off long before Travis Jackson below was imported. Now they seem to start as FA and sign minor league deals. Example:

According to Wikipedia Jackson signed with an independent team in Little Rock before signing with the Giants. I recall a couple years back in a previous version at least some of the time if the minor leagues were turned on players would import to their first professional team and not their first Major League Team and then in the replay it was a race to see which MLB team would sign them first.
