Historical league with 4 man rotations how to override one team to 5 man

Hi..

I'm doing a historical simulation for 1973 to see what would happen if the orioles did not trade Frank Robinson before the DH rule.

Anyway.. I have the league setup default with a 4 man rotation in the league settings. However there are a couple of teams that I want to override to a 5 man rotation.

I try to do that in the pitching staff screen for the specific team.. I set the team to a 5 man rotation. Add the fifth starter... but when a lineup change is done... the computer AI reverts back to a 4 man rotation. putting the 5th starter back in the bull pen.

How can I force the AI to keep those specific teams to have a 5 man rotation while the rest of the league default is 4?

This is an excellent question. And one reason i don't play as much.
As far as i can tell you still can't do it.
You can log in and ACT AS manager. But as soon as you leave AI takes over. The AI does the same moves (as far as i can tell) no matter how many times you play.
ie there is randomize teams AI.
You can LOCK player/team strategies.

I am pretty sure you can't lock in things like making xyz your top pinch hitter

You aslo can't control 2 or more teams at the same time
ie
i want to be Mgr of AL and one NL team.

Should i be shocked 2026 doesn't allow the ability to do what if scenarios?

I think this would work:

1. Create two human managers. Let's say you want to Montreal and Boston to have 5-man rotations. So you could name those two human managers Gene Mauch and Eddie Kasko (or whatever you want).
2. As you are creating each manager, select the team you want each one to control.
3. Under Team Control Settings on each manager's Manager Options panel, set all items to Computer AI *except* for "Setting Pitching Staff" - leave that one in control of the manager you just created.
4. Select Gene Mauch as the active manager and then go to Montreal's pitching panel.
5. Change Montreal's Rotation Size to 5-man and the either make additional pitching staff changes (decide who is in the rotation and what order, etc.), or "Ask Bench Coach for Staff." (Repeat this for Kasko & Boston.)

At this point, OOTP AI will handle everything for Montreal & Boston - just like it does for all other teams (that you don't control) EXCEPT for these two teams' pitching staffs.

You may need to take a quick look at these two teams' pitching staffs from time to time to make sure that, for example, if 4 of Montreal's 5 starting pitchers are injured and - since "Gene Mauch" is making the Expos pitching staff decisions - the Expos aren't stuck with one guy manning their 5-man rotation, and so forth. Or if Marty Pattin is having a terrible year as Boston's #4 starter, you might want to demote him to the 'pen, bump Roger Moret up from the #5 spot to the #4 spot, and either put someone else in 5-spot of the rotation or switch to a 4-man. Stuff like that...
