Pitcher has a BN1 warning -- what is this
I am playing the 2023 season of the St. Louis Cardinals, just completed the final week.
When it came to Steven Matz's final start of the season, there was a BN1 next to his name. With my playoff position solidified, I skipped his final start. But with the regular season over -- and as i look to set my starters for the wild-card series -- I am left to wonder, what does that mean? |

Just a guess, was he benched for 1 game?

It means he is benched for 1 game. Typically your 1st and 2nd starter will be benched the final game or two of the season if you have your playoff position solidified so they will be ready for game 1 of the playoffs. The game will use your spot starter or starter on highest rest in this situation so your ace can pitch game 1 of the series.

Tyler O'Neill lasted until May 9 in my 2023 season before suffering a torn back muscle which will keep him out until around Jan. 1.
Must have been hitting the weights too hard again. He was stinking it up anyway, batting just .136 with five homers and 11 RBIs in 24 games. The man for me, when he could stay healthy, was Lars Nootbaar. Despite having three significant stints on the injury list, totaling around 11 weeks, Nootbaar hit .279 with 25 homers and 55 RBIs in just 78 games. Fortunately, he seems ready for our best-of-three playoff series with Milwaukee. Jordan Walker also was a bit of a disappointment. He didn't earn a spot on the MLB roster until the Sept. 1 callup and despite receiving some decent playing time -- starting 27 games -- he hit just .114 with three homers and 12 RBIs. I doubt I even put him on the postseason roster. |

How is your pitching ? Wainwright is injured for me again. I extended him into 2024 at a good price. Nootbar is my 3/4th. outfielder.

I didn't want Wainwright back -- not on the real Cardinals or on my team or at any price -- so I let him become a free agent.
My thinking was that in a real life if Waino had become a free agent, he would only sign with a legitimate contender -- and probably just the Braves -- or he would retire. When he signed with the Giants for like $3 million, I retired him. Anyway, my starting rotation is mediocre. I really don't have an ace, just five guys who pitch well enough to keep me in games. My rotation going into the playoffs: 1, Steven Matz. 2, Jack Flaherty. 3, David Matos. 4, Miles Mikolas. 5, Zack Eflin. Matos is a 24-year-old rookie out of Cuba, who I signed as a free agent. I acquired Eflin at the trade deadline from Arizona. He had a series of really bad starts after I got him and I am thinking he won't make the roster for the three-game series with Milwaukee. I traded Jordan Montgomery to the D'backs in the Eflin trade. He had gone 4-9 with a 5.03 ERA in 18 starts for me at the time of the trade. He went 4-3 with a 4.38 ERA in 13 starts for Arizona. |
