Am I missing something with getting cards?

As the title suggests -- am I missing something?

To elaborate -- I've been mired in Silver for a few weeks. It's not a big deal, but I'd like to try and make the jump to the next level soon. Today, I took a look at the active rosters of some of the teams I'm competing against this week and, for the most part, the lineups are predominately diamond players. Awesome for them, but it makes me wonder if I'm missing something. I purchased PT+ and have no problem paying for that each week, but I'd rather not continue to spend money to buy points all the time just to get to that point.

So... am I missing something? Is there another way to essentially grind out points so I can start to have a majority of diamond players on my roster?

What are you buying points for? or what are you spending them on? Best way is to grind out tournaments.Win the packs, sell the doubles, rinse and repeat.

I'm not buying points. Just taking the points I earn and using them to complete missions for cards. I sell off the doubles from any packs that I acquire.

I'm just not sure if I'm doing it wrong. Approximately 3 weeks in and my opponents have pretty much all-diamond teams in the Silver league. I can't compete with that, and my team is all gold and above.

I would say watch the streams to earn free packs, up to 5 I believe. Secondly, build a tournament team, a good iron or bronze one can be built relatively cheap. Spam tournaments when you can, and with a little luck you can get packs. That's what I do at least, and I have mostly diamonds at this point.

How does watching the stream work? Do they give out a code or something for packs?

This is a mistake. Many will disagree with me, but I think missions are a trap. The only mission I completed so far is the Topps mission where you lock one card and get a silver pack. I paid 55 points for the card I locked and got a silver pack guaranteeing a silver card worth 100. If I can't make the math work on a mission, I won't bother with it. If you really want the reward card, then just buy it in the card shop.

Some of the others make sense even while ignoring the reward card, assuming you are only selling dupes from your packs. For the first-tier live missions, I wait until I have about 14 of the required 20, and then you can often buy the rest for 10-40 points each. So for less than 250 points, you get a standard pack in addition to the reward card.

He's serious

He sells all his live cards to buy non-lives, he had over 50 historical diamonds after only a couple of weeks. (He's murder on the Bronze tournaments, he's won well over 100 by now.) Most of the live "toppers" are now selling for a very small premium over their QS value, why waste time buying packs for 1000 PP each if you can just buy the diamond "topper" for 5K?

I disagree. I've pulled two diamonds from packs earned along with mission cards.

If you can get a pack for 250 points that's a good deal, but there is another big issue why completing any of the live missions now is bad. These missions are not fixed in stone like the others. Throughout the year they change: cards get added, cards get subtracted, cards get traded to other teams, and cards' ratings change. I learned this the hard way when a few years ago I locked some iron or bronze that ended up in October as OVR 91 and I had to look at that locked diamond card for the rest of the game and some cards that start out as iron can even end up OVR 100.

I will complete the live missions in October, when they are fixed in stone and the fun part will be never having had to buy a single card.
