How to run simulations with lots of leagues and a big database?
Hello there! I enjoy running simulations that work along the lines of world soccer with multiple leagues in multiple countries with multiple international tournaments where there is parody. My computer is struggling to handle a save like that and I was wondering if there are any easy changes I can make to make it run smoother. I only save stats for major leagues and major tournaments and delete minor league players that never reach the majors.
What kind of easy computer upgrades could I make as well? I run 8g of ram and have an i7 processor with a 500gb SSD. My graphics card isn't very good and I am wondering if that could change things as well? Last edited by jasmith831; 04-21-2023 at 03:47 PM. |

Graphics card wouldn't improve sim speed. More RAM would definitely help.

My EBL vs MLB started with 1999 MLB historical, added various leagues throughout the years and am now in 2037 with 4 MLs all with various minor leagues.league size is 17 GB.

Because of that experience, I can tell you that when it comes to doing multi-national & multi-league simulations, the main things you need to consider are RAM, processor speed, and hard drive. The more RAM the better, the faster processor the better, and a SSD - you already have one - is preferrable. The graphics card is only going to matter with respect to how much detail you want when you play out a game and how well the game runs when you do play it out. It's not really going to have any bearing on the speed of your simulation. There are possibly things you can tweak in OOTP that would make such a simulation run better. Some things I could think of would be: "Select Stats Detail" in League Settings -> Stats & AI "Delete Players Who Never Reached Majors" in Players & Team Settings Scouting Report updates & history in Global Settings Anything in the Autosave & Log Settings - also in the Global Settings menu Those are things that would affect the overall size of the save file over the life of your game, though I don't personally know how much of that weighs on OOTP's simulation speed when such detail settings are set higher. |

After awhile I got used to them. it used to take 2-3 minutes to sim a day after playing a game. now its 30 seconds, if that.
