Oakland A’s Decade by Decade Review (2024+)
Took over the Oakland A’s in 2024 as GM/Manager and it was rough sailing for 5 seasons. Come year 6, in 2029, not only did we have a winning record but made the playoffs. We also managed to win a WC series vs Detroit before being dispatched by the eventual World Series champions, the Seattle Mariners. We’re hoping 2029 will be a springboard into the 2030’s and bring us much more success.

Starting Rotation
SP 1 - Steve Busse, the former 9th overall pick in 2025, wasted no time in getting himself established in the majors as an ace. He spent just half a season in the minors before earning a rotation spot in 2026. Steve never looked back and went on to earn an All-Star appearance and has so in every season. He’s also a 2 time AL Cy Young winner, 2027 and 2029. This past offseason he signed a 14 year contract extension that’ll keep him in Oakland till 2043 in what should be a first ballot hall of fame career.
SP 2 - Dominic Simmons, trade with SD 7/20/29, was a salary relief trade as he filled the shoes of Adam Hinzman. Simmons still has a couple years left of team control and looks to be a major piece to a championship rotation. SP 3 - Luis Morales, a homegrown talent, exploded onto the scene last year with a 2.75 ERA and earned himself an All-Star appearance, first of his career. His window with Oakland maybe closing as this could be his last full season. At least to start the 30’s he should be a key part to the success of this A’s team. SP 4 - Wade Rosenthal, trade with BAL 11/04/28, will be looked on to take a big step and solidify himself as a key member of the starting rotation. SP 5 - Steve Orf, out of the 2026 draft class 5th round 127th overall, will need to shake off his 2029 debut and anchor what could be the best rotation in baseball. |

Key Bullpen Arms
CL - Mike Brock, a rule 5 draft pick from TB this past offseason, will take on the closing duties. There is a concern over the lack of his control and even a little HR risk but his stuff is so nasty he will get every opportunity to maintain the role of closer.
SU/CL - Eddie Blaquire, trade from CLE 7/21/28, had a solid campaign last season and will need to continue taking steps forward and establish himself as a key arm come playoffs. SU - Kevin Felts, trade from PHI 1/08/28, had a really good 2029 campaign and one of the most slept on bullpen arms in the league. Kevin may never be an All-Star but will certainly be an arm you’re happy to have in your pen come playoff time. |

Key Bats
Leadoff - CF Byron Chourio acquired in the 2027 rule 5 draft from Colorado is an excellent defender, with solid bat to ball skills, and a big threat on the base paths. He was brought here as CF depth but will have the full time duties this year and bat leadoff vs both righties and lefties.
#2 - 2B Joe Robinson, 3rd overall pick in the 2026 class, will look to build on his solid debut last year. With plenty of team control left Robinson will look to wreak havoc on opposing pitching to open up the 30’s. Joe is solid across the board but his bat will do the loudest talking as he does have plus power to potentially go along with his plus hit tool. If all can click for Joe he has the potential to win multiple silver slugger awards at the keystone. #3 - 3B Ken Prince, hails from my first draft class in 2024, 2nd round and 40th overall. He took a major leap in his 2nd season as he improved his entire slash line across the board. Back to back seasons with 24 HR’s and should be more in the tank with his plus power and in 2027 he did hit 49 HR’s in AAA. Needs to continue hitting at a high level to maintain his value, a bit injury prone and just above average defensively would be his only knock. Cleanup - 1B Leo Mangoni signed out of Venezuela in 2025. Despite being just 170lb this man possesses plus power and is projected to reach double plus power. Leo is a unique 1B as he is a capable defender and moves very well on the base paths. He will be making his MLB debut this year and wouldn’t be shocked to see him attain a 30/20 year with future 40/20 years ahead of him. #5 - LF Jordan Sanchez, trade with BAL 7/31/2024. It was a long grind for Sanchez as he spent over half a decade in our minor league system but it finally paid off. Last season he took a major step forward and clobbered 39 HR’s. He was a big reason we made the playoffs and will continue to be a big bat in the heart of this Oakland lineup. |
