Designated For Assignment Bug
I'm doing a historical replay from 2001 on, and I had a player named Justin Jacome get selected in the 2017 Rule 5 draft. Cut to June 22, 2018, and Jacome gets returned to me and gets put in the Waivers section. I get the message that "The St. Louis Cardinals have a player designated for assignment whose DFA time runs out today. He must be assigned or released. Please go to the Team Transactions screen, select the Waivers & DFA area and handle the situation." So I went to that screen and released Jacome. Now, I can't advance the game anymore because it keeps giving me that message, even though there aren't any players in either Waivers or DFA screens. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.

If the problem is with him in the particular, maybe going to Commish mode and assigning him to one of your minor leagues puts him in a place where the game sees he isn't in limbo anymore. If you can advance, you can then just release him again as that was the intent in the first place.

That didn't work. I assigned him to AAA Memphis and tried to advance, but it still gave me the same error. So, I put him on waivers and DFA'ed and got the same error. I released him and still got the same error. |

I fixed this, to a point. I went to League Settings and exported all rosters, stats, world data, and league structure. Then, I deleted all players and reimported the rosters and stats. I had to reassign a bunch of players, especially those from the international complex, who were all DFA'ed. But, it worked. I am able to advance past the glitch now.

New problem now: I got to the end of the season and got to the start of the playoffs. I go to set my playoffs roster and I have no players on my team. In fact, no teams have any players, other than players on the Top 100 prospects list. I searched for a few players and found that they have all been deleted. And, like an idiot, I don't have a backup. So I have to start over from when I "fixed" my problem. Is there any way to salvage this?

On a whim, I reimported the rosters I had exported earlier and everything looks to be correct as far as the player stats and usage. This is really weird!

Yet another problem now: I'm at the playoffs. I set my lineups and rotation and then saved in case something happened. Which it did -- the game deleted all the players again! Does anyone have any idea what is going on here?!?!?

ANNNNDDDD another problem! I made it through the playoffs to the offseason and tried to advance a few days to see the award winners when I get a message that I have a player whose DFA time has run out, blah blah blah. I go to the DFA screen and there 79 free agents in my DFA area. Not players I had in my minors, but actual FAs -- Sonny Gray, DiNelson Lamet, Chris Taylor, just to name a few. I never had any of these players on my team at any point, so why they were there is beyond me. Anyway, I tried to release them but the choice to release them does not show up when I right-click on them. I pull them down to the bottom of the screen one at a time and I get asked if I really want to release them. I click yes and yet they stay in my DFA area. I assigned them all to my AA team (which had disappeared for some reason, so I had to re-add that back into the game) and the tried to mass release them. The game asked me, do I really want to release 79 players, and I clicked yes. Then they all reappeared back in my DFA area. Please can someone help???

My best guess is something screwed up when you imported rosters.

I went back to my original save where I started having the issue, and I released all players into the free agent pool, then re-imported all the rosters and stats, and that fixed the problem. I had to reset everyone's fatigue levels and reassign all the players I had in my international complex, but other than that, everything seems to be fine, now.
