Babe Ruth???

Where is the respect for Babe Ruth? The only card of him is a level 58 card for 1915. 58??? Irl that year, as a pitcher he went 18-8 2.44 ERA, 114 ERA+. Hitting he had a .315 AVG, .376 OBP, 4 HR in 92 AB, 189 OPS+. Not only is this card vastly under-rated, but how can you not have any other cards of him? The man was hitting more HRs by himself than the majority of MLB TEAMS some years.

There's still a few months left in the cycle. Patience.

Sadly, Babe never gets the respect due him here. Compared to players that never sniffed the rarified air where Babe's resided, Babe is always about as good as the best Gold Cards. No matter the OVR on the Card, the Babe never elicits any fear when he strides to the plate in PT. Past Perfect Babes pretty much live at the Mendoza Line with maybe, maybe 20 homers in PT in a good year.

When was the last "must have Meta Card" with the Babe's name on it?

Never. The first impact Babe card that we see will be the "12th of Never"

I have often thought

That the true immortals of the game - the no-doubt HOF guys - should have progressive cards issued with, say, an iron card in the opening day set, with progressively better cards available via missions throughout the year so by the end of the cycle they would be more or less the meta team.

Never happen with all the whiz kid Future Legends who are "already better" than the Babe. Still, I do expect a solid Ruth card before the cycle ends. It just won't represent what he truly was. The savior. The legend. The greatest.

It seems like most Future Legends live at the Mendoza Line if they play. Of course, the Babe lived about 140 notches above that with power to boot.

George Herman Ruth - No weight room, no personal trainer, no scientific diet, no PT love. Just talent.

It's hard to say how good Ruth really was

In 1920, pitchers mostly threw scuffed baseballs, often with foreign substances on them. But they also mostly had the classic 3-pitch mix of FB, curve, and change. And their velocities were (likely) much lower than today.

There were guys who were experimenting with the newfangled pitch called the slider. An early user of this pitch, George Uhle, had pretty good success with the Babe.

And another thing to consider was that most bats had relatively thick handles and were designed for the "scientific" strategy espoused by Cobb of hitting the ball the other way and bunting for hits frequently. So pitchers had neither the weapons nor a viable strategy for attacking Ruth.

It's fairly easy to find videos of Ruth's swing, it was very long. If he tried to use that swing today, whatever his physical gifts were, he'd probably be Kyle Schwarber. And perhaps he would never have moved off the mound, with the sport's continued hunger for viable arms, especially left-handed ones.

But he might also have taken full advantage of modern training methods and equipment, and become a better version of Shohei Ohtani. You pay your money and you take your choice.

In PT25 there are no guarantees, which adds to the game. However, if we get a new Ruth he will be a 102 or better. Maybe?

He'd probably be released at a 103. Maybe along with some of the other legends who don't have Perfect cards yet; Mays, Cobb, Aaron, Gehrig, Rickey, Bonds, Speaker, Mantle, Brett, Schmidt, Walter Johnson, Mathewson, Boggs, Foxx, Reggie.

I gotta say, having played very competitively in 23 and 24, I completely disagree with this opinion.

Literally every Babe card was the "must have" meta when it came out (except the silver tourney card), and I actually had these, and played them.

That Perfect from the LE sets they were doing that year in 23 (not actual LE, the zebra stripe card) cost me 1.5 million and it was still going for 500K 4 months later when the cycle ended. Incredible two way card, was in the meta for cap tourneys and the like the rest of the year.

The 58 LE iron Ruth went for 120-200K for most of the cycle. That was the absolute God DH iron card in 23 - truly a must-have to have a top iron team.

The 99 diamond from 23 was a meta diamond tourney card for a while, a top DH or RF/LF option, particularly for power.

Both of the perfects from 24 (one is PTCS and the other tourney) were meta cards for a while at the top level of diamond league/perfect league. That tourney card led the league in jacks for me a few seasons in diamond league.

The gold came at the end of the cycle with like 190 power and was going for 50k+ for quite a while even though it was never part of a mission. Definitely a meta gold tourney card.

Like I said, every single one of these was the meta for what they were when they dropped, and for a good while after (excepting the tourney silver).

Edit: It seems that the current Chase Utley has had a bigger across the board effect than any Babe card ever. He may or may not ever be in the HoF.

Those are niche cards. None are "The House That Ruth Built" quality and have yet to be. But let's hurry and make the greatest cards from "future legends." You know the ones? Yearly PT has been littered with cards that were "Perfect Future Legends" before and never even sniff the air of Gold again after a year or two.

No player's name or deeds are as recognizable internationally as the Babe's.

Chase Utley

I liked Chase Utley as a player. He played hardnosed.

This year his Card has had a bigger impact across the spectrum of PT than any Babe Ruth card ever. He is not in the HOF. He may or may not ever be in the HOF. But...

He is more recognizable due to his recent career, so he must be better than Babe. Right?

The only Ruth card which had an elite impact was the PT24 PTMS reward card . I hope that card makes it to PT25 in packs or a mission? The other Ruth cards stuck out too much to be a true elite card.

Maybe you quit playing 23 early or something.

Was literally the best card in the game when it dropped, and he won back-to-back MVPs for me in Diamond League, and then led Perfect League in HRs (didn't win MVP that time, though) - those were his first three seasons for me.

In what world is that not a "must-have" card at the highest level (not niche lol)?

Plus, this card had incredible staying power because he doubled as a high-diamond type SP for cap tourneys, and it was still on certain tourney rosters for me when the entire cycle ended 4 months later or whatever it was.

I understand what you guys are calling for, but you're overdoing it by acting like we never get great cards for Babe.

I had him and later sold him for a better card in the game. I think it was the Limited Pujols.
