Issue with Dev Lab 'Learn new Position'
So, I have an infielder prospect who can currently play 1st, 2nd and Shortstop...I wanted to get him a bit of experience on 3rd base - After enquiring in the dev lab thread about best protocol I was told that the lab focus will auto-assign the most suitable position for the player to learn.
However, it has decided he should learn Left Field? Despite his ratings for left field being less suitable than his ratings for 3B? Is this just a case of bad dice rolls? Would I have been able to avoid this if I had just played him in that position during Spring Training like before? Here are some screenshots showing the situation: ![]()

If a player already possesses the skills necessary to play a position there's no reason to use the lab, they just need the game experience.
The lab program is for having a player "discover" some unrealized fielding skills that weren't there previously. |

Even by that definition, is it not somewhat curious to select a position where the default beginning range is 30? I don't understand why you'd use the learn new position feature otherwise, because you're always able to see the players fielding ability - so you could just manually designate the optimal new position for them to learn. I just anticipated this to be a time saving device with a slight additional perk of experience but it's not shown that on this occasion. |
