Play Mode Role

If I don't want to be affiliated with any team, what do I select in the Role during setup? The only options are Manager, General Manager, and GM/Manager. I just want to watch the league and make any changes as necessary (let it live its own life).

But it still requires a selection in the Play Mode box. There's not a choice for 'None'. Do you just not take a job with a team or something to avoid that?

Yea just pick whatever and don't take a job. Stay in commish mode so they don't offer you jobs.

You can select any of those roles. Doing so doesn't require you to take a job. One thing I would recommend though is, play your games in Commissioner Mode. Doing so, will stop you from getting bombarded by daily job offer emails.

One other thing. If you enjoy getting the news emails notifications about the happenings in your league there a couple things to keep in mind. If you are playing with reserve rosters(no minors) you can simply go under the manager menu/news options and select news from your entire world. This will ensure when trades, great performances, milestones etc etc. happen you get a notification and read the story, This is how I play most often, so when setting up my league, I just choose the role of manager, even though I'm only going to be watching. I never accept a job.

Now, if your league has minor leagues you will have a decision to make. If you select the role of manager and then select the option for news from your entire world, you're going to get notifications from your big leagues and every single other minor league as well This can get rather overwhelming. So, if you have minor leagues, you may want to select the role of general manager instead of manager. Then when your league is setup, you will want to take a job as gm of a random team for one schedule day. Go to the new options page and select news from your league. Play that day and quit the job the following day. This will stop you from getting all the news notifications from the minor leagues. You will only get the ones from the Major leagues. This method was taught to me by Bluenoser.
