1912 Boston Red Sox
I've been in a bit of a lull with my interest in OOTP, so I thought I would try something new and more hands on. I will be replaying the 1912 Boston Red Sox season. Why 1912? This is Tris Speaker's best season per Baseball Reference WAR, and since he is one of my favorite players of all time, I wanted to play this season out. I will be managing every game, and reporting how each game went here. This will take awhile, but I think it will be rewarding.

Opening Day - 4/11/1912
Prior to Opening Day, I traded for Christy Mathewson for Ray Collins. Christy is one of my favorite players from the era, and so I wanted to get him to make this series more fun.
Mathewson was my Opening Day starter, and he delivered. We won 6-0 against the New York Highlanders. Compared to the modern game, it's fun to manage a game without any bullpen finagling. Mathewson completed the game in 123 pitches, striking out 5 and walking 2. Jake Stahl hit our first homer of the season in the 3rd inning; a 2 run blast that went 413 feet dead center. Tris Speaker went 0-3 with a walk. Hick Cady, our catcher, collected 3 hits, Larry Gardner, our third baseman, had 2, and Mathewson himself had a hit as well. Great way to start the season: Opening Day Lineup: Larry Gardner, 3B, 2-5 (3B) Heinie Wagner, SS, 1-5 (2B) Tris Speaker, CF, 0-4 Duffy Lewis, LF, 1-5 Jake Stahl, 1B, 1-4 (HR) Harry Hooper, RF, 1-4 (2B) Steve Yerkes, 2B, 0-3 Hick Cady, C, 3-4 (2B, 3B) Christy Mathewson, SP 1-3 Last edited by nymetsfan5; 02-25-2025 at 01:55 AM. Reason: misspelled Mathewson |

We continue our winning streak, winning 6-2. Smokey Joe Wood only was able to go 3 due to an ankle injury, but Charley Hall, Buck O'Brien, and Ben Van Dyke were able to hold it down.
Offensively, Larry Gardner led us off and went 3-5 with a double and 2 RBI. Smokey Joe Wood had our only other extra base knock, a double. We had 9 hits on the day and were able to string along some nice runs. Hugh Bedient is starting for us next. |

We end up sweeping the Highlanders, winning 21-9 in the series finale. The Highlanders committed 4 errors, which lead to 6 unearned runs, and the game was over by the 3rd. Hugh Bedient had a solid big league debut, going 6 innings allowing 3 runs with 5 strikeouts. Tris Speaker set the single game walk record with 4, and then also hit a grand slam in the 4th. He also had a double and a stolen base. Duffy Lewis had a grand slam and a double as well. Everyone, including the pitcher had a hit in this game.
Day off tomorrow and then off to Philly |
