Pitcher Injury Recovery
When a young pitcher sustains a long term injury, ie TJ 12 month recovery, what happens to the pitcher's long term development?
I hide injury rating from my game, but without looking at the editor in commissioner mode, is there a chance that the pitcher will improve their injury rating and continue to develop? |

I once had a guy super-dev after a UCL tear in an online league ... came back at 24, threw a no-no in June and a month later tore his UCL again and it was an immediate career ender. I have rarely seen a pitcher have an injury like that and have a long career. Currently I have a starter who had a UCL tear and came back fragile and with his stamina gutted. But he has, at 25, become a fearsome stopper. Every night that league sims I fear a future career ender though.

Injuries, particularly big ones, will generally make players more prone.
Players can improve their "proneness", but that requires going quite a while without an injury. So, it could potentially help to "baby" them, but that is a long shot. Also, there are now options the Dev Lab that can improve injury proneness. |

I've had several pitchers lose miles off their fastball and have their stuff ratings drop accordingly. No different than what happens in real life. 4-star potential becomes 2-star really quickly.

There is no one answer, every player is different. I've had five star potential guys get hurt pitching in rookie ball and they were, for all intents and purposes, finished. I've had 3.5 star potential guys get hurt in the low minors and they recovered to be come 4 star guys and make to the Majors.
When it comes to anything pertaining to player development, everything is a case by case basis.

I have been thinking of just releasing these pitchers and moving on. But before I do, I will look at their injury history and if there is pattern then I will release them.
AND again, there is probably no good answer here. The top young prospect you got to keep, but the 26 year probably got to go. |
