Smile Team requests

Montreal: Expos is the obvious name. The Royals -- the name of the old minor league team -- would have been a great name, if Kansas City hadn't beaten Montreal to the punch in 1969.

Ottawa: Ospreys. Predatory birds are a common theme for sports team nicknames, and the alliteration seals the deal.

Vancouver: Vikings, Volcanoes, Mounties. The first name is of course shared by an NFL team, so if that's no good, Volcanoes is a decent alternative. Past minor league teams in the city have been called the Mounties, though I think it's kind of a lame name.

Portland: Beavers, Redwoods. The name of the recently evicted AAA team is the most likely appellation for an MLB team there. Still, it has some connotations which aren't family-friendly. I like Timbers, though the lousy MLS team already has the name. Redwoods is a possible backup.

Sacramento: Knights. There are Kings (at least for a little while longer), so there can be Knights too. I wouldn't go for name of the old PCL team -- after all, who knows what a Solon is? (It's a senator.) I also like Knights for Nashville.

San Jose: Athletics. That's probably where they're going anyway.

San Bernardino/Riverside/Ontario: (AKA "Inland Empire") California Emperors. The city names are relatively obscure to non-Californians unfamiliar with geography, so as long as the Angels aren't using it anymore, why not have the state as the location name?

Los Angeles: Mammoths. The La Brea tar pits. I'm surprised no one's taken this name yet.

Las Vegas: Blackjacks. If MLB colonizes Sin City, they should go all the way with the name. I've heard Gamblers suggested, but... meh.

Salt Lake City: Salt Lake Stingers. I don't know why they went back to Bees.

Mexico City: Diablos. MLB in Mexico? Maybe in the far distant future.

San Antonio: Alamos, Scorpions, Stallions, Stars. I really like Alamos as a name. Anything's better than Missions. One potential problem with either name is the clear reference to a period of poor Mexican-American relations. A politically neutral name like the Scorpions (taken by a soccer team, unfortunately) or Stallions would do. There are already the Dallas Stars, so that name would be a last resort.

Austin: Stallions. They wouldn't put teams in both San Antonio and Austin, so if the former isn't using the name, then the latter can.

Oklahoma City: Oklahoma Oilers. I'm sure Edmonton won't mind.

New Orleans: Pelicans. Yeah, kinda lame, but I couldn't think of anything better than the state bird. Maybe they could use Knights (alliteration), as long as Sacramento and Nashville aren't. The problem is that the city's name ends in an "s," which makes a plural team nickname sound awkward (New Orleans Hornets). The Saints got around that problem with a nickname starting with "s."

Nashville: Knights, Cougars. I like Cougars for Charlotte, so Nashville would get the name only if Carolina doesn't. Perhaps instead of the Nashville Knights (again, good for alliteration), they could go with Tennessee as their location. Tornadoes and Twisters would be good names in that case.

Memphis: Marauders, Meteors, Blues. The first is just a cool name. The second is less cool, but still works via alliteration. Blues is actually pertinent to the city itself but taken by nearby St. Louis. And no on Redbirds, as it's too similar to Cardinals.

Birmingham: Barons. Classic.

Orlando: Orcas. SeaWorld and alliteration.

Jacksonville: Suns, Jackals. Too bad the NFL took Jaguars. Suns is a historic name, if a bit bland. Jackals works on the same level as Jaguars, though it brings to mind a somewhat less noble beast.

Havana: Hurricanes. Assuming post-Castro Cuba can eventually boost its standard of living, anyway.

San Juan: Barracudas. Awesome fish name. Puerto Rico Pirates would work too, if they were to ever leave Pittsburgh.

Charlotte: Carolina Cougars. I can't believe Cougars hasn't been taken yet by a major sports league. It's one of the few large cats which hasn't.

Raleigh: Renegades. Maybe I too often fall back on alliterative names, but this one's still pretty cool.

Richmond: Rebels. See above. I hesitate a little on this name, as it might foster some North-South tensions, especially if it's shortened to Rebs.

Norfolk/Virginia Beach: (AKA Hampton Roads) Norfolk Navigators. Well, it beats the Tides, anyway.

Louisville: Sluggers, Colonels. If the bat manufacturers aren't OK with the first name, I'd go with a historical favorite (as opposed to sticking with the lame substitute name Bats).

Indianapolis: Hoosiers. Indians won't work in the bigs, for obvious reasons.

Columbus: Clippers, Buckeyes. The current AAA team name is fairly decent, though I'm somewhat fond of the latter, given its historical usage and the state's nickname.

Buffalo: Bisons. Admittedly, a bit redundant, but in this case I won't mess with a classic. Blue Sox might make a cool name, though YMMV.

Rochester: Red Wings. Sorry, Detroit, baseball had the name first. Rhinos might do in a pinch.

Hartford: Hurricanes (if not taken by Havana). I also like the old Dark Blues name, but it may come off as antiquated.

New York: Brooklyn Bombers. I wonder if their Bronx neighbors would mind. The New York Gothams sounds cool too. Batman fans would love it.

New Jersey: Jaguars (nuts to Jacksonville). Once again, a great place for the Jaguars name. If there can be Tigers in Detroit, there can be Jaguars in my home state.

On this page:

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...lay.php?f=3636

Go to the Search function on the upper righthand side. Search for posts (not threads) for logos, uniforms and the like that match or are close enough for your use. If you are inclined to search the internet or use AI, consider generating a logo you could use or tweak for your needs.

The justafan tool here is old standby for making a logo. That thread is here:

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=246081

eriqjaffe, took it up a notch with this logo-making tool:

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=349953

If you find uniforms in the pre-OOTP23 format, don't worry, they still work in-game for most things. For uniforms in current format, please consider using eriqjaffe's uniform maker found here:

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=336503

Good luck to you.
