Begging the Devs
... Is there *any* way to edit the school/commit school/HS v. college fields of the draft pool via an importable CSV? I've tried everything — even struck out attempting to hex-edit the players.dat file.
Because this apparently can't be done, it prevents the OOTP community from creating and sharing custom draft classes. I've compiled detailed real-life classes covering over 16,000 real-life draft prospects who will be eligible over the next few years (not as insane as it sounds — it's easy to pull data from PerfectGame, et al.). But neither I nor anyone else can use them in-game if there's no way to mass-edit school info via CSV — if you import without that feature, everyone is randomly assigned to the wrong school and class year, wrecking the appeal. Understanding you guys have a ton on your plate, I'm hoping there's some way to tweak it so that the school/commit school/HS or college fields can be part of the normal draft pool import/export function. It would be huge for immersion, and would provide a great opportunity for dedicated players to improve upon the game’s built-in draft classes (which, respectfully, are often missing a lot of prominent prospects, including first-round talents). Either way, I greatly appreciate all of the work you guys put in. Thanks for considering! |

It would be really cool if this could become something that could be modded in the future though.

The get-around for that is to go to the 'all players' screen and create fictional players who are eligible for the next draft — that is, if I want a draft class of 5,000, but the base class is only 2,000, I generate 3,000 new fictional players (essentially creating them just to use their IDs). Then I export the draft class of 2,000 real and 3,000 fake players to a CSV, and copy and paste 5,000 real players from my preexisting spreadsheet (which has all of the ratings I've tweaked for them, their real birthdates and hometowns and whatnot, et al.), overwriting every field except for the ID.
Re-import that CSV, and boom — I've got an accurate draft class of 5,000. Only problem is, now Ethan Holliday is an 18-year-old redshirt college senior at South Central Vermont Tech. If the devs were able to make school, commit school, and HS/College status editable fields in the import CSV the way that everything else about the player is editable, it would be easy to upload and share robust draft classes within the OOTP community. Would do for the draft what CBL's excellent rosters do for the base roster set — a deep, immersive upgrade at no cost to the devs. |

I would think this should be doable, but probably not till things slow down a little. Remind me in a couple weeks and we can see.

That would be awesome, TrapperJohn! I'm loving college baseball here in SEC country.

Klinger would be the KBO expert. I feel sorry for those who don't get these references. And for hijacking this thread.

Klinger was not even an MILB expert, as he never knew his Mud Hens moved to Charleston while he was in Korea.

Little before my time, but wasn’t there an episode where there betting on games that the staff was getting on tape delay, but Frank was listening to game broadcasts surreptitiously and subsequently cleaning up with his advanced knowledge? Then Hawkeye and Honeycutt either make up a taped broadcast or do it live with important details reversed, and dupe Frank into thinking he is listening to the actual game call.

Hey Lukas — just re-upping this request per your note above, in case things have slowed down slightly (maybe?) and it's possible to implement. Would love to build and share expanded, accurate draft classes with the community that can move from save to save. Thanks!

Yes, please!
The four biggest pieces of information that would be nice to update for immersion are (in order of priority) schools, injury ratings, draft lists for online leagues (to incorporate into draft spreadsheets and so StatsPlus can incorporate them into their drafts), and draft slot information (just being able to export would be enough). We draft one year delayed (2024 MLB drafted players were just drafted). I can line up the college/high school/juco mix but there is no way to associate players with their real schools. I know the devs would like more accurate injury ratings. Opening up the process for modders might fill the void. StatsPlus does a great job overall but OOTP's draft lists are far superior. Thanks in advance! |

exporting players should give us every editable option, including schools, personality and anything else that doesn't expect
