Just curious

Pregame Lineup screen. Each batter in the lineup has his stats against the game starting pitcher displayed. The display shows his career stats against the pitcher. Starting pitchers on the other hand have their current season W/L record and era displayed against that day's opponent. Just curious if it only showing the current season is done for a reason and if that's actually what folks prefer? I've always wanted it to show a pitcher's career W/L and ERA against that opponent.

I actually never focussed on that, and you're right, career stats would be preferred, due to the small sample size. Of course career stats for Verlander would have more data than for Skenes.

This season only is the better way IMHO. The reason?

For batters the pitcher never changes. IE it's career against "Joe Baseball". One can argue if any of this is significant or not, but at least it's apples to apples.

For the pitcher almost every team they faced over their career consists of different batters. Let's use Kershaw as he only pitched in the NL. Let's say he is pitching against the Cubs and we get his career stats vs. them. The lineups of the 2010 Cubs were much different than the 2016 Cubs, the 2020 Cubs, or the 2024 Cubs. It's the reason when I'm watching a Cubs vs Dodgers game and they announce the Cubs' historical W/L record "all time" vs the Dodgers I think "who cares". Other than historical filler (which is fine to include in a broadcast IMHO) there is no meaning. It's just interesting.

Most of these stats comparisons are from sample sizes that are too small and almost irrelevant? Having said that "as they are" in OOTP is probably the most relevant way to show them in the context of today's game and the present season.

My 2 cents.

It could be the way it is because of how the data for current vs past seasons is stored and the ease of accessing it.

Also is it possible for it to be customizable to categories I would prefer?

This too. There is not a sort for "vs Team" under career pitching. But it is there for the current season.

Thanks. That does make sense.

How are you seeing this? Mine shows current year stats.

Question, are you seeing the menu of options on the very right side of your screen? To the right of your lineups, that is?

to view, you have to hide options, simply click on the 2 small arrows just right of cancel game button...

The button is mostly hidden with this color combo but I found it with hover.

OK, now what? I've clicked all around and can't find a button to change the stats.

Disregard, I just noticed your bottom screenshot no longer shows the options menu. I wonder if it's the star ratings that is keeping you from seeing the batter vs pitcher stats. I know I don't use stars. Will have to look when I get home.

Home from work and if I use stars, I still get the batters stat vs the starting pitcher. I'm not sure why you aren't.

Checked some more. The save has current year batter vs pitcher stats but it's not keeping career batter vs pitcher. It seems it needs to save career or it will not display even current year. I don't recall turning this off although it seems I must have. Thanks to everyone for their help.
