Historical FAQ
Some settings in here do not play well with other settings. It is best to use the Historical League Creation Wizard when making your games. If you set some settings like Retire According to History on with Player Miss Seasons According to History but do not use Use real historical transactions, have Import& Maintain Real Minor Leagues turned off, you might not have enough players in your league to play. Each Historical Wizard has been setup for certain ways to play the game. It is best to just use them over turning on and off settings that might have a negative impact on your gaming experience.

After 1901, RAH on, MSAH on, Real Minors off is fine in my experience.

Before 1901, have RAH off, MSAH off, even with injuries off.

As a general wiki comment that you should play the game with defaults on until you understand the side effects of each toggle, it's a good heads-up and was likely meant to prompt this very kind of thoughtful consideration of settings and the unintended consequences thereof.

Changes need to be approved by moderators before they show on the page. This is to avoid trolls and third party advertisements.

It says it is "best" to use the default modes for most gamers, it does not say "don't change anything". I'm not sure why you read into it that way.

It is simply a warning that you need to think through and test any changes you make. There is a reason they created the default modes that they did...and with as many options as are available you can't expect every iteration to work well.

How can we know who wrote something? Advice coming from an official source such as you has better standing than advice coming from a fan.

Again, I wish OOTP published a current game manual like it used to. I still use the older manuals all the time when looking for information. I always thought they were well done and very informative.

Your mention of older manuals made me check. The part I quoted is in the wiki but not in the manual so it's a fan addition. It makes sense because an official source would be specific on what not to change.

At the top of each Wiki page, there is a "View History". That will provide you with the time/date of a change as well as the user who updated it.

It looks like the OP intended to start a discussion leading to discrediting Twins_34, writer of the quoted section about settings and the volunteer leading the failed Wiki. Many people probably overlooked his obituary but it is unnecessary to drive some more nails into his coffin. He and others in the Coterie of Coddled Purveyors of Misinformation were previously discredited and fled the board in embarrassment.

The important thing is that devs have taken some tentative moves toward proper game documentation. Any step even at a snail's pace is a step in the right direction.

What is ridiculous is that a person can be banned for proving how the game works.

What ISP would they contact? The one for every Starbucks in my city? LOL.

I am obligated to ban an account from a banned user trying to return esp. when that user engages in the same behavior that got him banned. You seem to see yourself as a martyred truthteller against a forum conspiracy of some sort. That's not the case. You engage in discussions (like auto-calc) and say it works like "this". Others come on and make the case for it not working that way. It's thoughtful and civil at first, then very much not. Matt comes on and clarifies how it works. Your response to that is to insult everyone involved. Nobody has "fled the board". They put you on Ignore - just as you suggested. But because they stopped engaging with you, you ratcheted up the insults on them seemingly itching for a fight (or at least engagement).

The complaints flooded in and with a long list of expired infractions over the years and no change in behavior, it wasn't a hard call to stop letting them expire. Again, behavior wasn't changed and eventually the account was banned per the terms and conditions of the forum and much discussion. As your long tenure on the forum indicates, banning isn't a first resort, it's a last. I'm sorry you think you are a victim but you aren't.

You were NOT banned for "proving how the game works." You were banned for harassing, insulting and trolling anyone that dare offer a counter-opinion. Even your return post on this new account in trying to make the case that a community wiki won't work for a game as complex as OOTP because so much of the under the hood mechanics are known to only the development team (a very reasonable assessment), cannot be posted by you as simply as that. You need to insult everyone that put you on Ignore.

I realize replying puts me in your cross-hairs and I don't want that but I felt it was important for you to know the reason for the ban because if you think it was for "proving how the game works," it still hasn't been made clear to to you. I also want others to know that the forum remains a great place for advice, discussion, commentary, criticism, complaints, challenges to the development team and the opinions of anyone. Just be civil. Life is too short to be insulting everyone all the time because you think the game ought to be played one way and not another.

LOL at a long list of expired infractions over the years. The first five came from the same moderator, CONN CHRIS. If you look at what they were for, trivial things, it is obvious he wanted me gone. Maybe he got twisted over a post long ago where I said Rick Monday's play wasn't the greatest in MLB history. Surely something like that.

Take a look at THIS THREAD and tell me who is issuing the insults. And who is breaking the rules without penalty?

I continued to post proof what I said was right. No one posted any proof I was wrong. They just said I was wrong... and stupid... and a troll.

The following post got me two perm points and a ban for being a troll. How is this post a troll? How is it insulting? And Matt added the his comments about auto-calc adjusting strategy to the wiki despite people saying auto-calc doesn't affect strategy.

I was just trying to present the other side as to why the original account got banned. That's all. Not looking to attack or be attacked.

As for these bans of late, they are just "returning user" ones and self-explanatory.
