Is there a way to assign existing players as player-managers?

There is no way to assign the dual roles of player and manager to the same individual entity in the game, but what you can do which is almost as good is edit a game-created manager and change his name, vital statistics, and facegen to match the player you want to be the manager. Assign him to your team and voila, player-manager. Just be mindful of any weirdness that will ensue if the manager gets fired or the player gets traded.

I do it John's way myself but another possible way is to retire the player, turn him into a coach, name hm the mgr of whatever team then unretire the player and put him back on the team. The only thing i hate with player mgrs is they tend to get fired on bad teams quickly then i have to put them back on that team since the player version is still there especially under reserve clause era. It's on my wishlist for Markus to fix this.

Yes, this should absolutely be fixed, since in a certain era, most managers were players.
