Star rating versus player ratings

Not new to the game, but something that has always confused me a bit ..

This is a game with Scouts ON..

Say I have a pitcher whose ratings (according to my scout) are (actual/potential)

6/6 (Stuff)
6/6 (Movement)
8/8 (Control)

All of his pitches are fully developed ratings-wise as well.

Yet, his Overall star rating is 2.5 stars. His potential star rating is 4 stars.

Why the discrepancy, if he is fully developed, ratings wise, in my scouts eyes?

Is star rating more an "actual" look at the player's skills and perhaps this would indicate some scouting inaccuracy from my scout, who says my guy is fully developed? I would have assumed the star rating was my scout's too, so it has me confused ...

If you have the box for "Overall rating based on AI evaluation, not pure ratings" then the players stats affect his current rating. Unchecking this box and running a rescout should eliminate what you are seeing. Or, if you leave it checked, you will understand the descprepancy.

Ahhh, that does make sense as I've seen it the other way too .. With a player having a good season having like 3 stars actual rating, 1 star potential, type of thing.

So it's essentially a gauge of who might be overperforming/underperforming?

Or who the AI is over-valuing or under-valuing......

Based on your responses, do you plan NOT to check the box for "Overall rating based on AI evaluation, not pure ratings"? I'm new to the game myself and as I looked at this page in the game settings by default it's not checked. I assume this is to keep performance stats out of the ratings equation? I have scouting presently turned "on". Appreciate your thoughts.

Personally I like it on, but then again I rarely play with ratings visible. I prefer to use stats to evaluate the players. And I like the AI to do the same.

Game > Game Settings > Global Settings .

You'll see the box on the lower left side of the page. By default it's unchecked.

Hope that helps.
