I think I pissed off the injury gods...

I'm doing a 1951 what-if Red Sox season (in which Tom Yawkey went bankrupt, and was replaced by a less-racist owner who took George Digby's advice to sign Willie Mays) and, as of June 21st, the following players are out injured:

Willie Mays
Clyde Vollmer
Billy Goodman
Bobby Doerr
Vern Stephens
Johnny Pesky

Which is to say, my starting CF, RF, 1B, 2B, SS, and 3B.

Even after calling up nearly every position player in my system (I'm not using fictional), the lineup would include 3 Single-A level players and have no position player substitutes except backup catchers.

(This all happened just after a nest of Jim Unknowns appeared on my AAA roster and I had to go in and delete them all--maybe they're harbingers of doom).

Amazingly, despite all this I'm only a half game out of the pennant race, largely because my pitching staff is intact and has been excellent, and Ted Williams (who himself missed 3 weeks earlier in the year) has been his usual brilliant self. Still, with losing Doerr and Goodman in the last couple days I think the wheels are going to come all the way off.

What are the worst injury problems you've had? And what would you do in my position? I could revert to my backup, which is about a month old, before most of these happened--but also before I charged from 4th to briefly hold the pennant lead. I'd also think at this point that turning on commissioner mode and reducing some of the injuries might be justifiable.

Deal with it. If you can win with this team, you deserve to be called an OOTP god.

If you're not ok with that level of injury frequency, I'd consider changing your injury settings for the next season/league that you start. I wouldn't restore to an earlier point in the same season with the same settings, or use the editor to change their injury status. I personally have injuries on Very Low because I hate seeing teams devastated for that reason, so I'd recommend that you do the same if you are unhappy with the injury rate you are facing.

So, urged on, I decided to forge ahead unchanged, and in the short term it wasn't pretty. I dropped five straight, and one day when Williams was exhausted I had to field a lineup that looked like this.

However, mercifully the other top contenders didn't take full advantage, and the bunch of scrubs actually managed to pull off something amazing, sweeping a double header against the White Sox, behind Walt Dropo, Dom Dimaggio, and Ted Williams all finding their home run strokes, and some very nice work by Mickey McDermott in game 2, pitching through a day-to-day injury of his own. I then got Pesky back, and he came back big, going 3-4 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored in a 12-8 slugfest (that also featured 2 HR from Dropo) and going 2-4 the following day. Goodman is nearly back as well, and Mays should be in another two weeks or so. Vollmer and Stephens are basically done for the year, and Doerr will be another month, but this might just work.

New to the forum (well, posting anyways)! Hello all!

I usually play with the default injury settings, though I have been absolutely wrecked by injuries in more than one season. I don't have any screenshots, but one year I literally lost all of my position players to injury at one point. My team was entirely bench players for a few weeks. The one time I got fed up with how frequent injuries occurred and set them to Very Low, players across the league starting putting up massive numbers. I continued with the settings for a few decades, and the career totals were insane. One guy named Wolf Gunderson (I think) put up a monstrous 952 career home runs. So I'm inclined to believe lower injury settings lead to bigger outputs from players.

Makes sense. But personally I consider injuries to be part of the fun of the game. The real life injury gods claim the best of em, it's all part of the challenge of building depth

Of course. There have been players I've discovered in my system just waiting for a chance to since, and others' injuries often provide that chance. Injuries keep things unpredictable.
