Minor Playoff Bug
Hi,
I'm running a league with two subleagues. Subleague-1 has 2 divisions (6 teams), Subleague-2 has 1 division (4 teams). Division winners only. Come playoff time, the only playoff series run is between SL-1 Division winners. Whoever wins that wins the whole thing. There is no World Series with the winner of the 1-division league, affecting one team's repeat chances, which isn't a big deal for me right now at least. Thanks |

Both sub-leagues need to have the same number of divisions in order for the playoffs to work properly.

So is this not a 'bug' then because it's known? I'm just curious as giving a team a bye to the next round seems elementary.

This has got me bewildered. Now, I haven't played the game yet (I'm awaiting the Mac version), but am I correct in understanding the game allows you to set odd numbers of divisions and then have playoffs... only to have them not work properly because of the division setup?

That is correct. I hope this is fixed.

The playoffs at present cannot handle bye scenarios. You must always have an even number of teams in the playoffs, and that number, after four, must be in powers of four. That means the playoffs must have 2, 4, 8, 16, etc. contesting teams. Quote:
In order for playoffs to work properly when you have two sub-leagues, both sub-leagues must contain the same number of divisions. In other words, if both sub-leagues have two divisions, no problem. If both have three divisions, no problem. If both have seven divisions, no problem. But if you have one sub-league with two divisions and the other with three divisions, the playoffs won't work correctly. If you have one sub-league with two divisions and the other with only one division (as the initial post described), the playoffs won't work correctly. The current version of the game was not set up to handle that sort of imbalance in the structure between sub-leagues. Last edited by Le Grande Orange; 06-02-2006 at 06:13 PM. |

At the very least, mention of it should go into the Game Guide and/or Customization Guide.
While a warning message would be good too, there are probably other fixes which take priority at the moment. So "spreading the knowledge" so to speak is the best option for now. |

Oh, I understand that. It's just that, as a general programming rule of thumb, it's best to include these error handling routines whereever possible. I was hoping they were used robustly in OOTP. It helps prevent alot of bugs.
