Waiviers Bug

I saw this posted at the FOFC forum.

Thats a pretty big problem. Almost negates the purpose of having irrevocable waivers.

its not always necessary to waive a guy to send him to the minors. could you get more details of the situation over there? it appears to be working right for me.

As I understand DFA, the player is immediately taken off the 40-man roster for a 10-day period. During that period, he must be traded. If he isn't traded, the team may release him (granted waivers for unconditional release) or attempt to send him to the minor leagues.

However, that's a situation under which the player must clear waivers before he can be demoted.

For the player to have been sent to AAA after being DFA, he *must* clear waivers.

not necessarily. he could be put back on the 40-man and then be sent to the minors, avoiding waivers. this is all assuming he has options left.

but then that means the bug isnt the "not waived" part, its the "not on the 40-man" part.
