Thats a pretty big problem. Almost negates the purpose of having irrevocable waivers.

its not always necessary to waive a guy to send him to the minors. could you get more details of the situation over there? it appears to be working right for me.

As I understand DFA, the player is immediately taken off the 40-man roster for a 10-day period. During that period, he must be traded. If he isn't traded, the team may release him (granted waivers for unconditional release) or attempt to send him to the minor leagues.
However, that's a situation under which the player must clear waivers before he can be demoted. For the player to have been sent to AAA after being DFA, he *must* clear waivers. |
