Acquired Players clearing waviers

If I acquire a minor league player, I cannot always send him to AAA. Often it will require him to clear waviers because he is out of options, even when I demote from from the DFA area.

If he's out of options then I'm pretty sure he has to clear waivers before you can send him down, no matter how you try to do it.

Was the player in question on the 40-man roster of his old team?

even if he is on the 40/out of options if hes at the AAA level, he should be allowed to stay at AAA. If definatly should not charge an option to a player until he touches the 25 man roster.

It doesn't sound like he's sending him down though, it sounds like he signed him to a minor league contract and it's never letting him take him out of the DFA area and assign him to a minor league team.

nope.

any year a guy is on the 40-man and in the minors, an option is used.

That is correct

When you hear that a player is "out of options," that means he's been on the 40-man roster during three different seasons, beginning with his fourth as a pro, and to be sent down again he'll have to clear waivers (more on those below).

but if the player is acquired through trade an additional option is not exercised.

If Joe Smith is on St. Louis AAA and is out of options. If Pittsburgh acquires him through trade, Joe should be able to be assigned to AAA.

ahh, i see what you mean. thats correct.

if he was already in the minors and you are putting him in the minors, he shouldnt have to clear, but he does need to be on the 40-man of the new team first or he should have to clear (irrevocable).
