A Plethora of Shutouts
42 complete game shutouts in the first month of my solo league, and this does not include minor league shutouts, of which there are many. Is this a byproduct of using a roster pack originally designed for OOTP6.5 or is there some setting that I need to tweek in order to reduce this amount?

Just start up a default league and watch as the news comes up. Lots of "5 hits in a game" and CG shutouts. I see it too

Well, this will need to get moved over to Tech Support to be examined.

It's certainly coming up "shutout" way more than what would be normal...Seems every other game on the news flyer is a shutout....Yuk!

Sorry if this has already been noted. It is a new league, not a carryover from a previously started one. I did not do any adjusting so it is the default settings of the game.
It is Cubbyfans most recent 2006 roster |

Last season saw fewer complete games than almost any other season in MLB history, and there were still 63 complete game shutouts recorded. That's more than one every three days over the course of the season, at historically low levels. The shutout numbers the game's producing are reasonable. It looks as if more are being recorded if you look at the news reports, though, because OOTP06 generates a news story for any complete game shutout, while OOTP6 only generated it for one- or two-hitters. All those six-hit shutouts that went by unremarked in previous seasons are getting news articles now.

42 shutouts in one month is not reasonable, if I read the first post right.

If I'm incorrect, and the original poster got the 42 number by adding up the totals from the individual player leaderboards, I apologize, and that would be weird for any league on modern settings.

2006 Fictional Results in
Nothing that terribly cool happened, and Jersey City won the Series in 7 games.

My best estimate right now is that due to the emphasis on shutout stories and 3 HR stories in NEWS is that people are getting a false impression.
You can dig into my posted sims if you would like. Keep in mind that these runs are based on a beta patch. |

In order to eliminate the thought of false impressions, I have attached a screen shot of pitching stats as of 4/30/06. Keep in mind that there are more pitchers with 1 shutout on page two but this should suffice to show what I know to be excessive complete game shutouts.....

OK, I think this merits a TT to be at least examined. With the same league, can you get a screenie of the League pitching totals?
TT#1673 I am following this thread and TT, but will be away for a day. Last edited by Raidergoo; 06-06-2006 at 05:52 PM. |

I guess I should add the modifier page which is at the default settings...perhaps some recommended adjustments can be provided...
No surprise coming from the bottom panel news ticker huh? Last edited by JPFALCON; 06-06-2006 at 07:01 PM. |

Looks to me like you have two issues. The first is that your starters are pitching a lot of complete games. Those are 1970-type levels. You might want to check your league settings and make sure your starting pitcher usage is modern era. Your ERA's are looking very low, too -- about a run under what you should get with a 2006 league. Put those together and you'll get a lot of complete game shutouts.
Default settings are "Use of Relievers" and "Use of Closers" at "Very Often" and "Pitcher Endurance" at "Low". Is that where your game is?

I have use of relievers and closers set at very often...however, I did set the endurance rating to normal. I would not have thought that adjusting a strategic tendency to normal would create such an anomoly. What kind of games would be simulated if pitcher endurance was set at High or Very High then?
I would think that a pitchers endurance rating set at normal should not affect the game like this. |
