Retired players aging

Did a search on this, found nothing, so here it goes....

The retired player's continue to age instead of staying the age they were when they retired. I don't think they aged before the patch (I'm fairly sure they stayed their retirement age on the main page, I could be wrong).

This isn't a biggie, it just makes it hard to check on those who retire early, either due to the pitcher aging problem or CEI. Plus, sooner or later, guys might be listed as 200 years old (should someone get that far into the future).

So, would your thought be that the age should be the age at which the player retired?

I don't think Markus wants to get into calculating when players died and so forth.

On the other hand, wouldn't a simple, randomly generated death for retired players be fantastic?!! This would stop the aging process and would be replaced with "deceased - Jan 4th, 1953" or something like that. It would certainly be cool to look back at the player histories and see that as part of it.

Yeah, then we'd get a "player death" news category. "Hall of Famer John Montoya died today from natural causes."

I would rather see them age for a few reasons.

1. I just think it would be cool to look at a hall of famer and see that he is 62 or something.
2. If Markus brings back players unretiring to this version, I sure hope they don't come back 2 years later at the same age they were when they left.
3. I would rather the actual stat-line for each season for a player show the age, I just think it would be a better place to track their career. BBPro is an example, look here.

True, if he brings back unretire, I could see the reasoning for them to continue aging. It just looks odd to have 150-200 year old men sitting in your retired player's box

Retired player death, now there's a concept

Don't get me wrong, it's a really cool concept. It's just...on the list of a jillion things asked of Markus, it's gotta be down around 1 jillionth.

That'll suffice. It may be one of those things that could find it's way into future versions and that's perfectly ok with me.

OK, so I put a few bees in Markus' bonnet about retired players, but I'm not going to log any specific bug about this issue, and will move it to Closed/Claimed Fixed.

Hope that's OK!
